flap settings

I have a query re flap settings ...in all flights using 737, a320 etc..i have used 15-20 degrees flap on take off then reducing settings while
climbing out.Failure to do so will cause flaps to be frozen.no problem until flight report then tells me penalty for misuse of flaps and
basically lacking pilot skills! went to next flight-same procedure-this time perfect!
I know it's probably a minor point but it's frustrating to complete a long flight with no time acceleration and feel you have got it spot on, only
to cop a penalty that has never surfaced before.

I usually set flaps 15-20 takeoff and retract them immediately, that works well

Welcome ozrod

Firstly, make sure you keep the flaps set until at least 300ft above the runway.
Also on approach, make sure the flaps are set 300+ft before landing

For your information, normal flaps for take-off on a 737 is 5 degrees. For shorter runways or really bad weather conditons, maybe 10 degrees. But it
is never more than that as far as I know.

Always use 5 degrees, well as "Ana" says depends on weather and runway length but usually always 5 degrees, flying a 737-800 atm
and I have never got a penalty....

Yeah, that's the setting I use too.
Then, as soon as climb is established, gear up, then flaps up, in that order.
It works for me; I've never incurred a penalty.

This one wil be a litle bit technical.

The flapsetting is depended on your weight.That is in regard to fuel.How many passengers onbord.How long the Runnway
are.Temperature of the day.
15- 20 degrees are to mutch.You only increes the drag not the lift.To mace it simple.For take off you need to increase the lift.For landing
you need to increase the drag.If the Aeroplane is heawy and you have a long runway you dont need more than 5-10 degrees flap,BUTH,If
you are on a short Runway it is different.you dont make a roling take off,you make a static take off.That is,You put your brakes on,spoole
the engine upp to max take off trust and release the brake.The engine are at full power for take off ,You axelerate faster and you use
shorter runway.Then,AGAIN depending on weight i only have 10 degrees flapsetting,if you sett more flap you wil only use more runway
because of the increased drag.If i'm heavy on a short runway i must make a compromise.Go down on the fuel.Leave some passengers
behind or leave the cargo?Normally .Leave the cargo behind and go down on some kg/lbs of fuel.BUTH not more than that you are still
within the regulation regardin trip fuel and Reserve fuel.If you fly the PMDG 737/747 the fmc vil calculate the speeds for you and you put in
v2 +10 kt in the cdu speed window.Otherwise you must calculate the v/speeds.If you hawe the manual for the aircraft you are flying the
speeds and flap settings is in there.Buth for landing i´ts a different case.There you must increse the drag to slow down the aircraft for
best manovering speed with flap and landing gear extended in landing configuration.And again the fmc vil calculate that for you based on
the weight of the aeroplane.

I think the key here is in how FSP handles flap speeds. In the real world, flaps are retracted on schedule based on airspeed, not all at
once and not when you feel like it. When you hit flap speed for retraction, you pull in a notch. Simple, if you have the flap retraction
schedule for the aircraft you're using.

Now, FS has no real flap speeds, as far as I know. In the aircraft.cfg file, there's a blowout speed but no set min/max manuevering speed
for each setting.

How does FSP handle flap speeds? I haven't a clue, other than you must have something set on takeoff and something set on landing.

So that basically adds, nothing to this thread.

Now, if you set flaps 15 while your aircraft is on a conveyor...

yeah, lol never seen a nose down departure...but thats really low for departure.
