Idea for next version: a report browser

Dan,

just an idea for a future upgrade / version. It would be nice to have a small external program able to read and print data from the FsP
database. Sort of a "report browser" to read/export/print aircraft data and pilot statistics without the need to launch Flight Simulator. Do
you think it could be useful?

Think this has been discussed before; and the general consensus was: giving that it only takes "most people" 20 seconds to load FS9, it's not worth
the bother....

My FS9 takes about 7.5 minutes to load. I would like this report browser. And not to mention I then have to wait to load an aircraft and start a
flight before I can see any of the information.

I agree that it would be a good idea.
Of course the speed of starting FS is pretty much connected to speed of the PC but as well to the amount of add-ons.
My FS9 directories count up to almost 8 GB space.
Of course it takes time to load FS9, select aircraft, and build the scenery.

If it is not much hassle to reuse the software to create an off-line application, it would be very much appreciated.

For Giorgio, I always make my printouts at the end of my flight. Then I am still in FS9 and so it does not cost any time.
If you would download PDF995 you can as well print to file for later printing if needed.
Maybe that helps as well...

My suggestion was made because:

1) As said, on many systems launching FS2004 and starting a flight just to view or print a statistic could take a lot of time;

2) you must remember to do your paperwork at the end of each flight, and often you are too busy with shutdown checklists and so on (I
usually am);

3) even in real life, pilots are not forced to file their reports while in the cabin. They have a room in the airports and they can do their job
between flights;

4) It should be not too much complicated because all routines are already written for FsP: they should be just copied and inserted in a
Windows wrapper.

Anyway it's just my two (euro)cents...

Agree for #1, #2 and #3 anyway #4 is false... it's a serious work because the 42'000 line of FSP code
are closely linked, sorting all this an etxtracting only the part that is needed is a serious work...
I know, I tried

Unelegant solution is of course to roughly cut/past the needed part but in this case I would not have anymore one
program to maintain but two... (any change made in FsP should be immediately done also in the viewer, a pain)

Never underestimate programation... what seem simple in real life might be a nightmare to code.

I can take a shower dry off and come back to get dressed and my sim is just loading. But then again my sim folder is pushing 100 gigs

I think it should be done. It is already possible for FSP to store your last viewed report anyway so how hard can it be to make something like this
covering all your stats as well that you can access from Windows only and not in FS2004?
