Look, let's be realistic on this. Some things Microsoft has done over the years has resulted in some utilities going away. It's bound to happen from
time-to-time.
My personal belief is that there are one or two products each major version that have cause to worry.
For example, how many people do you think actually choose Radar Contact over the default ATC? The VAST majority use the default ATC. If Microsoft
continued to improve ATC, it could reach a point where very few people would bother with an add-on.
Another example. If Microsoft were to add GPS data and provide similar functionality as FS Genesis provides, both Ultimate Terrain and FS Genensis
would find it very hard to continue on.
Will Microsoft do that? Only Microsoft knows for sure. I know of quite a number of people who didn't renew their weather programs because Microsoft
added Real Weather. And where did Pro Flight go? They were a hugely popular application for FS 98 but when ATC moved forward there was no need for it.
I'm new to FS Passengers. It appears to be a pretty neat program. However, to assume that Microsoft couldn't compete with it if they so decided, is
crazy. The question really is, will they bother? I have doubts there. Perhaps they will add passengers to FSX but will it be more like the passenger
loading we get in add-on planes or will it be like FS Passgeners? My guess would be more like the former.
One thing is for sure. The closer we get to the end of the year, the harder it's going to be for ANY add-on to make sales as everyone waits to see
what FSX is all about and how the add-ons work with it. There are several add-ons I've recently considered and decided against simply because I'm not
paying for something only to get a couple of months of use out of it.
