When I fly to an airport i don`t know how far it is. How can i find it out befor take off? I`am oft landing to late or to early .

Umm... lol. You can always create a flightplan in FS9, or a comparable flight planning program (I use FSNav). Most aircraft feature a
FMC, or GPS utility. Read the instructions for that, and I'm sure you'll be finding distance to your airport in no time! Also, read up on VOR navigation and associated topics. Should help.

Asking ATC for directions when hundreds of nautical miles away isn't feasible though. True that it works when the airport is "within visual
range" in the simulator, however other than that it's really not of that much use. I just assumed this poster was asking about finding how far away from an airport he is when he is mid-flight, or quite a distance from the airport. Navigation is key. You must learn how to get where you want to go. Knowing how far away you are from the airport is USELESS if you don't know HOW to get there!

I used a ruler and a map when I flew with Golden wings since there was no GPS in the 30's

I fly the airbus-320 and use it when I fly flights for Pinnacel Wesr Airlines.
