Yeah right... SWA go international? The next airport we'll be adding is Southwest Florida in Ft. Myers! Hopefully Charlotte, or Milwaukee
after that!
after that!
Now that's what I call a good pilot!

With the fuel going up and NorthWest and Delta bankrupt, I don't think any airline will be willing to expand soon...

We are though! This is confirmed, 100% for sure! RSW will be our next airport!

Quote:Northwest and Delta bankrupt And in my humble opinion, that's a bunch of crap that never should have happened. Thanks to our government bailing out United and US Air, it has completely screwed the system. It's called survival of the fittest...bailing them out doesn't do anything for the system because someone needs to go...bottom line...someone will not be flying much longer. ![]()

Well this raises a whole different questions. Should air travel be run and manadated by the federal government, or should it be (as it is
now) a private industry (more or less)? I like it just fine the way it is. If everyone had to fly "USA AIR-TRAVEL BUREAU", I'd think there'd be a LOT of unhappy customers! What else lately has our government done a good job at? Asking them to manage an airline is like asking me to fly an Airbus! Come on now!

Pretty soon we will be back to taking ships to cross large expanses of water as only domestic airlines in the cost saver areas will be the
only ones not wearing Mafia Nike cement shoes in the great lake of survival. And I agree with Brad, our government couldnt find a picture within a connect the dots

Yes, the major US airlines that have been around for years are starting to have problems. Is this really completly unexpected? I'm sure several things sped things up, so to speak, but some of the carriers are weighed down by old ways of doing things and can't really change fast enough to compete in a free market. This is just the winding down of the shakeouts that some people expected ever since deregulation. The New Carriers like Jetblue, SWA, Independence Air, etc are starting to fill in and actually earn money. The "big boys" just have too much baggage to keep up. Even with that being said, some are trying, and chapter 11 may let them do what needs to be done. Delta's cheap carrier ("Song"? I forget) is set up in a way that seems to compete better with the newer companies.

SWA really isn't a "new carrier" (in the class with Jetblue, etc.) We've been around for over 30 years!
Good points that everyone seems to be making!
