Look - no wing!

Here is a clip from an English newspaper today:

A PILOT flew this plane for TWO HOURS before realising nearly half of a wing had been ripped away just after take-off.

Amazingly, he managed to land safely, despite the 5ft 7in chunk and a fuel tank being missing.

The flyer told investigators he thought the five-seater Cessna 210 had been “hit by a little bird”. But it was believed that he probably
clipped treetops after leaving the runway.

The unnamed pilot noticed the damage only when he saw that one of the fuel tank gauges was showing empty.

He had set off to take two flight engineers from Ireland to Lisbon, Portugal, to repair a grounded Boeing 767.

They were forced to land at Jersey international airport after spotting the damage.

What's also worrying is there were two engineers on the plane as well

I can't "buy" such stories.

The wings usually participate to the effort to keep the plane in the air and quit commonly have the aileron fixed on.

A very clever pilot keeping control of his plane despite the shock wich ripped away a part of one wing, despite the assymetric air lift, despite a
messed up banking control... Hard to believe but OK could be.

But keeping on flying quietly WITHOUT REALISING.... Please check the date of the newspaper . I bet it is from 1st April

If I hadn't read this in a different paper I'd say it was all lies. Almost everything the Sun publishes is badly exagerated or just made up.

This one, even if I read it in the Times, Les Echos or the Bible... No way

btw, This pilot and plane seems to be great travellers: See the immatriculation number begining with N...

But after all, who can fly 250 nm with a wingless Cessna can certainly cross the Atlantic with the same plane having both wings.

I could see it and searching for this company, I could see that there is indeed a pacnet air in Shannon operating this aircraft.

So could be a part of truth in this story. Still difficult to imagine the pilot really did not realize. But could it be that as the plane was still
flyable, he choose rather trying to make the travel for his 3 customers and landed when he sew that he was loosing too much fuel ?

If so, I think this pilot complies with all requirements needed to fly for TERROR AIRLINES
