Exceeded Aircraft Speed???

I just completed a flight from KMEM-CYOW, and at the end of the flight I receieved the post flight report. To my amazement I was penalized
600 points for exceeding the speed of the aircraft!! This is horsehockey at best! I am ALWAYS very careful about speed limitations on
EVERY aircraft I fly, whether in real time or on the sim. On today's flight, even though there was considerable wind sheer at higher
altitudes, I never got an indicated speed over 275 knts, so I got a penalty for absolutely nothing. Even on descent I maintained 240
indicated, below 10k I slowed it down to 220 IAS due to turbulence. I was flying a Captain Sim B757-200. I can honestly say that in the 93
hours of FSP flying, I have never exceeded aircraft speed. Yet, I have exceeded flaps speed before, but nothing like this. Anyway, I was
rather perturbed at this. But, I still managed to get promoted

It's possible that your speed jumped higher than 275 knots for only a second.. like, if the wind suddenly changed, and then changed back to what it
was previously, you may not have seen that jump..

I'd just take this penalty off. Nobody who knows what they're doing is going to actually exceed the max speed, and it's not worth losing 600 points
every time the wind shifts in flight.

Yeah, its probably wind shear. If you don't have a registered version of FSUIPC, or ActiveSky 6 (or something like it), windshear is kinda uncontrolled.

This could be a good point for Dan for the next FSP. It sounds like it just reads the max speed and if that is higher than the max speed
rating for the aircraft, you get dinged. Maybe, if there's a way to read the max for a period of time, say 5 minutes? I think this is done by FS
though, so it probably can't be done through 3rd party software.

Do you have "Aircraft Stress causes damage" checked? If so, an overspeed will likely kill the flight for you. If you have that checked and
go overspeed for a short period, say a few seconds, it won't.

Average speed report wouldn't work either. Hmm... Something to think about.

Actually, I didn't have Active Sky until last night.....wooohoo! But, even at higher altitudes, and not having AS6, the wind sheer experienced
during each flight never got ahead of me in terms of overspeeding the aircraft. The moment I would noticed and increase in speed, even
by one knot, I would turn off autothrottle and engage the speed brakes to about 5% because I know it is at this point that the speed is
going to keep increasing until the sheer passes. At any rate, that was the only time I have been dinged for exceeding Vmo in FSP, so I
guess I shouldn't complain.

It's not so much the true wind shear that causes the overspeed. It's the way FS handels the transitions from one area of weather to another. If your
flying in say the New York Area and you have a 20kt tailwind and you move into the DC area and there's a 20kt headwind, what FS doesn't gradually
change that over time like really happens in real life. Instead as soon as you cross the transition point the wind changes instantly, same with the
clouds and visibility. If you've ever been flying in IFR conditions and then suddenly wen to perfectly clear skies this is a prime example. In the
event of the wind direction change however this also affects your listed airspeed. As you change from one area to the other FS is goign to recognize
that as an instant change in airspeed. In this case your airspeed will increase by 40kts instantly, however, just as quickly as FS makes the change
it also realizes that your aircraft didn't actually change speed but the winds did and it drops your speed right back down to what it was prior to the
change. When this happens it happens so quickly that there is nothing that the pilot can do other then hope the toatal amount of the temporary
increase didn't put you over Vne. A registered copey of FSUIPC or AS will do gradual wind changes so instead of going directly from a tail wind to a
head wind the wind direction will gradually change over time/distance.

Actually I do have a registered copy of FSUIPC 3.60 and had the settings as you described. I bought ActiveSky 6 last night and now the
flight environment is sooo much sweeter What an amazing product!

What I have done in order to avoid any possibility of overspeeding while in cruise flight is to set the autothrottle at 240 IAS. It's worked out
just fine that way so far. If there is any headwind at all, the groundspeed can suffer quite a bit, but at least you don't get a darn overspeed
penalty. Last night I made a flight at FL370 to Gander,NF and kept the speed at 240. Occassionally there was a sudden shift in wind
speed and direction and cranked up the IAS to only 255 before the autothrottle backed off the power. If I had it set to 250 then I would have
gotten an overspeed for sure.
