Bird strike

Hi. I recently had a bird strike on a flight from atl to mem. I made an emergency landing in Birmingham. I have two questions.
1). I didn't realize I had the bird strike til half way to mem when my port engine flames out. Is there a way to tell sooner?
2). Did I do right thing by going to Birmingham instead of completing the flight mem? The flight from atl-mem is only 1 hour and I wAs about 45 minutes to Memphis but only 15 to
birmingham. Thanks!

Yes, there are ways to tell a bird strike: keep an eye on the engine power ratings - when the bird goes in you should see it spike, then fall below
the healthy engine, and you may recieve jumpy EPR readings from that engine. If in doubt, divert to an alternate as although a/c can fly in one
powerplant, it's not the greatest thing to have to do. Although it doesn't apply in this case, I'd point you in the direct of ETEOPs (Extended Twin
Engine Operations) which lay down some guidline on how long various powerplans are allowed to be used sinlgy while on long-range journeys.

Here's my story:

I was in a Beech 58 when FSP gave me a bird strike. I just lifted off, heard a loud "whack". The plane pulled to the right and down. I stalled
immediately and nose it into the ground. From the strike to the ground was about less than 15 seconds. It went that fast.

Loss of an engine on takeoff is a mother for sure.

All you can do is the following:

- max power on the good engine
- deployment of rudder towards the good side
- reduce rate of climb (given there are no obstacles right in front of your nose)
and most important

concentrate on keeping the bird in the air ^^

Do NOT turn over the dead engine - that is an absolute no-no if by any means avoidable.
Try to climb to a safe altitude and level the plane and just then go into finding out about the "wtf" situation.

Approach with a higher speed than normal which will give you a margin to play with in case you have to correct your approach.

Normally, minimum controllable airspeed is right at stall speed (Vs1) but with critical engine failure there is not enough rudder effectiveness to
overcome asymmetrical thrust....hence the spiral and fiery death! As such, twins have another V-speed: Vmc which is the minimum controllable airspeed
with critical engine failure. In the Baron, it is 81kias. Vy (maximum rate of climb) becomes 100 and Vx (maximum angle of climb) becomes 96.

The exact V-speeds may not match up entirely but it'll get you started...

I have had 2 bird strikes. One in my 757, I lost the engine later climbing through 20,000. The last one was taking off from a jungle strip in PNG.
The Cessna Caravan's engine quit just off the end of the runway. I was able to clear the tree line and smack into the nearby lake. RIP one
passenger and a chunk of my companies reputation!

I just had a bird strike a few minutes ago. it It was the first flight for my newly created airline. It was a brand new 737. i took off from LAX
heading to DEN, but about 500 ft off the ground, the fire warning came on. i switched to outside view and saw the right engine on fire. A
few seconds later the copilot said "the engine flamed out!" I tried to control the plane maually but it was too much work between that and
finding a place to land and pushing buttons and stuff, so i had to use the autopilot. I had to return to LA so I was vectored towards the
mountains and had to climb to 9000 verryyy slowly... right as i reached 8800 i was told to descend back down to 2200 ft. The ils approach
was ok except for the plane was crabbing the whole time and 2 AI planes passed me cause i had to go slow. I went in for a manual
landing and found myself on the left side of the runway so i had to correct but because of that i blew a tire on touchdown, too . I also
had to ignore a go-around and just land. I was #4 for lading but everyone in front of me went around and nobody was on the runway when
i landed but me so i don't get why i was told to go around anyway. Ironically, the passengers opinion from all this was a PERFECT flight!!!

So, I had a plane with landing gear damage and a destroyed engine so I just sold it and made money off of a wreck. At least my airline
can try to get in the air for the first time again...

The ATC system in FsX (and FS2004) is a joke. Asking an airplane coming in to land on an emergency to go around!
That's why I got RC on FS 2004. Unfortunately it messed up FSPassengers when I tried to install it on FsX so if ATC gives me a weird command I just
ignore it.

hehe i was flying the antonov and i got a triple bird strike 2 left 1 right still made that 4 hour flight. yea i noticed it after my engines burned
out.
