I was descending and my speed went only 3 knots over and I caught it right away and corrected it, but I still got the 600 point penalty.

![]() Maybe it varies from aircraft to aircraft.

XM Dude, are you referring to the "Overspeed" penalty or the 250 knots below 10,000 speed limit penalty?
Theres a difference. With the overspeed, you are overspeeding the aircraft, and doing that at all, even by 3 knots deserves the penalty. If its the speed limit, then yeah, that seems a little rough, because I can usually exceed it by 6-7 knots as long as its for just a few moments and not get docked any points.

I have gotten away with both by being on top of the overspeed limit and putting out some spoiler right away.
Fortunately, I keep my feathers numbered; for just such an occasion.

In both cases I was only 3 knots over and I caught it right away, and quickly went to idle on power and applied spoilers. and it still didn't help.

And the 747 is exempt from the 250 knot rule due to the nature of some of itstakeoff's, nothing the FAA can do about that.

Doesn't FSP already have an option to ignore the 250kt thing? I'm going from memory, 'cuz I only have FSX installed now and don't run
both sim versions (disk space, ya know)

You can request it (CTRL+SHIFT+3), I've done so to avoid accidental penalties, it's always denied...
![]() I usually stay AT LEAST 10kts below the 250 limit or the overspeed limit of the AC just to play it safe, with real world weather FS9 can suddenly change the wind direction 180 degrees instantly, now your below the limit, and WOW Now your not (and climbing like mad...) 8o

I've turned off the overspeed warning for just that reason. You are penalized too quickly. It can happen suddenly, depending on the wind, the weather,
the aircraft, and whatever else. In most cases it's not the pilot's fault.
LOOSE = Not tight, as a loose garment.
LOSE = To suffer loss, disadvantage, or defeat.

Just to be on the safe side, im always below the overspeed speed by about 20 or 30 Knots. Ive never got the overspeed warning!
But saying that... I do get the stall warning quite a lot. LOL

I've turned the penalty off since in real world the controllers very often give you no speed restrictions below FL100. I remember two days ago siting
in LOT Polish Airlines B767 on descent to land at EPWA rwy33, before the base turn speeding 320KIAS below FL070. I was kinda shocked but they did it ![]()
Joey Tempest, you actually wrote the soundtrack to my life and I thank you for this with all of my heart...
