Failure %

15% for one of my FSP companies, but if I get bored I made an Airline called "Deadly Air" which has a 100% failure rate, and only
operates out of ORBS, thats usually exciting....

I have mine at 10% Ive did about 120 flights and never had a falure.

Well I set mine to 1% because have a company named "United Airlines" and in real life they don't have lots of crashes or emergency landings! I want to
keep it as real as possible.

Well.. in Atlantic Airways (for about 1 year ago) They had.. what was it, 3 flap Failures, 1 Crash , One nose gear fell off, Suspicion that the gears
didn't come out, in one year :P!

I know in my flying of over a few hundred flights so far, the worst that has happened in flight was a non-working brake in one of the gear.

ground without ever moving the plane. (And these are brand new planes, not even a year old as I type this - all glass panel.)

So, I'd say real world failure rate is pretty high after all the above and more incidences. (Would you believe once the FMC and the Flight
Display would not show any airports/airspace/traffic because the system was down through all the aircraft in the area? Can't fly if we don't
have a working FMC.) It seems to be that most of the failures are minor, and easily seen before even starting the engine. Broken lights
aren't too big of a deal, but are an in-flight hazard to traffic avoidance and regulations, so planes would be held at their parking spot,
mechanics would fix it, then they'd fly. Its rare to have engines fall off and windows blow out, but amazingly common to have annoying
glitches show up.

Its true, the minor bugs and problems happen quite a lot. The sort of problems you see in FSP are only the tip of the iceberg, but it does cover
quite a few of the critical types of failures (at least the mechanical ones). These sort of failures ARE very rare, as Anastasios said; well under 1% per flight . U.S. FAA test requirements say that the probability of critical failures has to be demonstrated as very low. For example a tire blowout due to failure of the tire itself has to have a probability under 1 in 10,000 flights or 100,000 flights, or something like that. Of course this doesn't address the chance of debris on the runway causing a blowout. There's always the odd encounter with birds, stuff like that. Still, it doesn't happen very often.

That said, it IS a lot of fun to have a higher failure % set in FSP; I just use the default 5%. Keeps things interesting!

I think it's depends very much on the airline also. As posted above, US airlines are going to be in the below 1% range. On the other hand
you could look at some sub-Saharan airlines. If I wanted to kill myself that badly, I'd just put a pistol in my mouth.

Just thought I'd bring it up on the failure topic and its chances,

today we tried to fly up in an SP - the door wouldn't close, as the lock would initiate internally before the door was shut, disallowing it to
close fully. Since we couldn't close the door, we had to cancel the flight with that plane and switch.

I'm starting to have problems as small as this every single time I fly, lol, reality failure hit of 100%

The FAA requires something like 10^-9 per flight hour probability (that's like 1 in a billion chance) for anything that would result in a
catastrophic outcome (ie. crash) eg. loss of ALL engines, hydraulics, or electrics. That's why those systems have duplicate components,
so that the failure of any one or two systems will not bring down the aircraft. In fact, by FAA rules, an aircraft at max takeoff weight must be
able to suffer one complete engine failure just after V1 and still make it safely into the air.

I keep mine at 3%... Everything has gone smooth, but 2 unlucky days in which, on the first, my Beech 1900 left gear wouldn't lock... I put it
down with some hard touch and go's, but they were alittle to hard and I broke the nose gear.... :P The next day, I sold the Beech 1900 for a
brand new Dash 8-100, and had a fuel leak on its second flight... THEN, after I repaired the fuel leak, and on the flight directly after that, I
accidentally opened the door at FL200.... The only other issue I've had with my FsP airline is when I was departing Miami in a Dash 8-300
(Ithe aircraft I currently operate are the 8-100 and 8-300), and had an engine blow out after takeoff. Unfortunately, this was on multiplayer,
and I had yet to edit the CFG file to disable collision, and someone I was flying with rammed me midair in a 777..... I don't think it was
intentional, lol, he seemed pretty sorry a,d he couldn't speak English very well.
