Simulation Rate and Movie/Food/Drink service

Just reading the manual....

I was wondering if you serve food/drinks or begin a movie on a flight that would be 3 hours long at 1x sim rate, but up it to 8x or 16x so that
it takes only 30-45mins, will you be penalized for not completing the service/movie? Does FSP understand and accept when you up the
sim rate?

Wow, I have never even thought of upping the sim rate. That sort of defeats the purpose of flying doesn't it?? It's the ONE feature I would like to
see removed in the next fs version. Why fly a flight if you can't take the time to do it the right way. Just my oppinion. I know why people do it.
I just don't agree with it.

SpectroPro, I disagree with you completely. While it is more satisfying to fly a long route without time acceleration, it is not possible for
folks such as me that work 12 hour shifts and have a significant other. I wouldn't want to pause my flight for hours at a time either. Flying
only short routes is not an option because face it, who wants to fly 100-200nm in a 747? I don't like the save function of FS2004, it never
works right for me, so my best option is time acceleration.

like I said, I know all the reasons why people use it. I simply disagree with all of them. I run two companies. One for eight to 10 hours a day
away from home and one while I'm at home. I have a wife, five kids, band practice twice a week. Church, two days a week, and yet I still find time
to fly flight simulator. We, friends and I, have flown around the world several times. We put in, somewhere between 10 and 20 hours a week flying.
There are weekends where we may fly 10 or 15 hours in two days.

Then again, I do just fine on two to three hours sleep at night. I know most people can't do that and that's fine. My point would have to be this,
if you're going to fly flight simulation, then you should simulate real flight. Otherwise you are simply playing a game. This is probably fine for
most people however, I have seven other game flight simulators, which all are just games. Flight simulator 2004, to me, is for flight simulation. I
use it not only for fun, but also for training so that when I am flying for real, I have that much more experience. I have close to 2000 hours of
real flight time, and probably well over a thousand in flight simulator from FS 2000 through FS 2004. I think I have honestly used flight time
compression once or twice for maybe a total of 10 minutes, and that was while trying to catch up to a group of other people in a group flight.

From what you wrote, it does look as though time compression is your best bet. However, I don't know why you would have a problem pausing a flight.
From what I hearyou simply save a flight, and it saves everything about that flight and then restart it when you wish. I've never actually saved the
flight while flying, so I don't know how all that works.

By the way, just a note of interest, I wrote this entire message using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8, which I just installed. This is very cool!

I guess it's just one of those things where you say "toe-may-toe" and I say "toe-mah-toe", there is not a right way to do it. You are correct,
if you are looking for straight simulation, then time acceleration would be a no no. Myself, I like realism, but I'm more interested in the
skill part of flying like startup, takeoff, climb, descent, approach, and landing. The part in between is usually just monitoring the autopilot
unless you are a hard core stick-and-rudder diehard. Of course that's the beauty of FS2004, it appeals to people across the board.
Maybe one day when I can afford real lessons, I'll start using FS2004 more as a simulator than a game...but until then...2x or 4x is my
friend

Either way, FSP is going to make things much sweeter!

That is also the beauty of FsP it can be tweaked in such a way that it will suit the need for an individual or a group ( VA ). Myself I would
never accelerate time or disable some of the other options you can find in FsP but someone else might want or even need too, let's say
you are flying a plane that does not have flaps, FsP standard setup would give you a penalty for the take-off without using your flaps but in
a particular file you can quickly disable that penalty for those flights in for example the old Fokker VIII or something similar. Anyway you
catch my drift, it can be tweaked to your needs guys

Van's RV7 is one modern plane that doesn't use flaps. And not all small ones that we may start with do either do they? Do you need flaps
in Cessna 172?

In that case .. just disable it for those planes whenever you fly them

Flaps: yes, you do need them in ALL planes at take-off and landing. As Jay Kae said, that limitation can be manually disabled by editing the config
file (done with the Windows notepad - very easy).
