I'm at work and can't view it right now but, I'll reply to the thread title. Did anyone ever see that movie about a corporate jet that completely
hands off? Kinda, ah, scary. Made a good movie though. ![]()

Thanks! I've heard/read a lot about it but haven't seen it untill now.
Many things have been fishy when it comes to this accident; they went so far they even swapped the black boxes to remove the responsibility from Airbus and blame the pilot ! ! I have a book called "Air Disaster vol3" with full details of the accident and yes it was being flown completely manually with the captain assuming
the system could recover the aircraft from its high angle of attack attitude and save the day. Of course it is not that sophisticated and the captain flew it into the trees because he thought the aircraft was higher than them because the nose (and his view point) was, but the tail wasn't. It actually was pilot error or many more A320s would be crashing everywhere due to "computer faults". The A320 was new then and its computer software and fly-by-wire modes were a very new concept to many pilots, who thought they could be complacent in some cases with it, like this example shows. I still can't believe people are saying this was flown into the trees by a computer, sorry, it WAS NOT, the captain was attempting to demonstrate ALPHA FLOOR protection mode, but timed the fly by incorrectly, failed to set up the correct configuration and actually flew it into the trrees completely as you might be able to in a 737, 707 or de havilland comet for that matter ![]() Quote:fruitfly wrote: WTF? The black box was switched, I heard that story too. The pilot wasn't demonstrating the alpha floor protection, he tried to climb, but since the
airplane's computers were in land mode, not go\around or takeoff mode, the pilot couldn't get the aircraft to climb. He pulled back on the stick and pushed the throttle foreward, and neither had any effect. ![]() ______________________________________ Brandon Jones Western Michigan University College of Aviation Aviation Flight Sciences Major FAA Certified Flight Instructor Cirrus SR20 |
