To make us help you, maybe you should tell us what exactly are your difficulties with the landing phase. Like difficulties controlling your
plane at low alt? Or always bouncy landings? In these cases we could give you a proper landing procedure to follow to your best abilities. Otherwise you need an online flight instructor, I suppose... Geo

Maybe you missed my first response: Quote:Okay, like any other plane, know your stall speeds, flap speeds, runway length minimums, etc. Then, step down until you land. The I just find it fascinating that after all these years, you still can't land. You've been offered plenty of help - now, go do it and stop complaining! ![]() (you'll have to excuse the tone - I just had another bunch of drunk, friggin' idiots in here making a nuisence of themselves and I'm royally ticked off!) Okay, I'm going to try this again - step by step. If you can't figure this out, better forget about flight simming.
Before you takeoff, use the flightplanner to find your arrival airport. If you make a plan using the default planner, the last one in the list of waypoints will be the destination - click on it to center the map on that airport. Now, zoom in a few times to get right up close. Click on any of the runways - this will bring up a detailed list of info about your destination. Scroll down to the bottom and find the runways. Now, write down all that info - runway designator, heading, length and ILS frequency. Normally, with no wind, you will be given an approach to the longest runway. If using ATC, they will tell you which runway they are going to vector you onto (or you can get that info by tuning the ATIS frequency into your Com radio). Find that runway's ILS frequency and dial that into your NAV1 radio and turn it on. You will hear the beeps indicating that it is active. Also, use the GPS to line up - you will see the ILS represented by those long green arrows spiking out of the runway ends. ATC will normally vector you at an angle to intercept one of those. As you approach the end, with autopilot still on, switch from HDG to APP (Approach) and the autopilot will line up for you, also adjusting altitude to keep you on the glideslope. That will pretty much take you right in - just watch your airspeed - you'll need to use flaps to slow down to minimum gear speed and drop the gear. Also, you'll want to be sure to arm the spoilers and set the autobrakes (usually to 2). All this is covered in virtually any checklist you can download. I never use autoland so, I can't speak to that. When I get down around 500-1000 feet, I usually disconnect the autopilot and fly'er into the runway myself. Pass over the threshhold and chop the power, flare, touchdown - autospoilers deploy, thrust reversers down to 80 knots; brakes at 60 knots, turn off landing lights and strobes and exit the runway, retract flaps and taxi to the gate. Of course, if you're doing a visual approach, throw all that out the window. Then you'd better listen to ATC to give you the proper headings and altitudes. After that, eyeball the runway, get your speed down, drop the gear and stick the landing. |
