I have mine set on 1280 res. for FS9. That's the max I can set on my Gateway LCD monitor. It's good enough for me

What's the screen's native resolution? LCD's really don't like displaying any res other than their native res. CRT's don't really care up to their limit.

I have 1280x800 widescreen whch is also my screen's native res.

Also, take a look at what the refresh rate is on your monitor. Mine was set at a default 60 Hz but I was getting some screen flicker at times
while in FS9, so I set it to the max of 75Hz and no longer get the flicker
