I was wondering if a person who has glasses/contacts/corrective eye surgery can still look into a career in aviation. Would he/she be able
to obtain a 1st or 2nd class medical certificate?

Get Lasik as for glasses, my ex had her IFR cert for GA and flew bespectacled

Yes, as long as you can pass the vision tests using your form of vision correction, you're okay with the FAA. Don't know about other
agency's. Last time I checked, you needed perfect, uncorrected vision for the military. Knowing the Air Force though, I'm sure they
lowered these regulations.

You can still get your 1st or 2nd class medical with glasses or lenses. It should be the same over the world as standard there are set by ICAO. In
some countries they will add an endorsement/restriction onto your licence specifying you need to wear corrective lenses or glasses whilst performing your duties.
How do I know... I developed a pilot licencing system in use by 2 countries atm.

Probably depends on the ariline. Lufthansa for instance requires good, uncorrected vision.

Yep, you're right Nem. You'll see a lot of pilots state-side that have glasses. I myself have good vision (I'm the only one in my immediate
family), so I've never run into any problems with this, and as such don't know TOO much about the modern requirements. It all depends
what FAR's you're operating under (as an airline, or carrier); different areas of aviation have different requirements!

Just reading all this information and I'm so glad that wearing glasses is not a problem. Wow
