Onboard Hot Meals

Okay, I have a slight issue here...

I'm flying a B744 from RJBB (Osaka Kansai) to KDTW (Detroit Metro). It is a 12 1/2 hour long flight, but the problem I have encountered is
that I'm now about an hour from Metro and I have no more food on board.

I didn't let the passengers "pig" out, but I guess I think that the amount of service items on board should be able to be controlled by the
pilot.

My proposal is to have that as a loadout option at the beginning of the flight and then have it charge you whether or not it is used (i.e. the
food spoils if it isn't used on that flight).

Thoughts?

Never experienced such a long flight so far (FAA has the tendency to pop it's head 'round the corner and call "Darling?" in a stern voice after a VERY
short while).

But if this is a problem, then, yes, I think it could be a good idea.

Such a "load engine" would also support the "Duty Free" requests submitted by other peeps.

I have run into this same problem on the long haul flights. I hope there is a way to change it.

That or have it set by the expected flight time as set in the arrival time box:

Less than 1 hour = 1 snacks
1-2 hours = 1 hotmeal + 1 Snack
2-4 hours = 1 hotmeal + 2 snacks
4-8 hours = 2 hotmeals + 2 snacks
8-14 hours = 3 hotmeals + 3 snacks

Yes, that would be a simple fix as well.

I believe someone has mentioned that as long as you are showing a movie, they won't complain about being hunger. I haven't had a need to try this
myself, but you might give it a try.

You actually RAN OUT of food? I thought there was "unlimited food" on board. Maybe I'm wrong!

Yes, there are only 2 hot food servings...each of them keeps passengers happy for 4 hours. After that you only have sandwiches and
drinks. Try and make them drunk, it looks like the supply is unIimited...I bet they won't complain about being hungry anymore

Well lets see, with 2 hot meals (4 hours of satisfation x 2) and two sandwiches (2 hours of satisfaction x 2) that would equal 12 hours if you
lengthened it out to the maximum time possible. That's a good long flight. And personally, any flight longer in real life there's a long 6 to 8 hour
"sleeping" period where no service is provided unless you call for it. So maybe for those "overnight" flights sleeping should be taken into account.
The HUD could say something like:

Seatbelt Sign: OFF
Lighting Level: DIMMED FOR SLEEP

220 pax on board
140 wearing seatbelt
162 sleeping

this would meen we would need a new sleep button aloong with the seatbelt button.

"Good evening ladies and gentleman, this is the captain speaking...we've just finished serving you the last meal on this flight, we gave
you drinks, you watched a movie, now I'm turning on the go-to-sleep button. Everybody close your eyes please and GO TO SLEEP! We'll tell you when to wake up. Thank you."

Jokes aside, a suggestion like this was given many times by me and other users. Nobody ever mentioned a button though. It might
actually be a good idea if it's too difficult to program FsP to recognize when passengers should be asleep. Right now they do sleep for
about 7 hours if you leave the gate right around 8pm. But for a long haul flight that leaves during daytime this doesn't happen.

EDIT: I 'm not sure if there are only two servings of sandwiches onboard. I think there are more...

I like the "lights out" idea. I remember flying westbound over the Atlantic, I did not have this, however, eastbound, I did when we went
though "the period of darkness." So, not a "GO TO BED" switch but a "CABIN LIGHTS" switch then...

Yeah, I actually did run out of food...it was on auto-manage though because, well, to be frank, I wasn't babysitting it very close...12 hours
in front of a computer will give you a numb a**.
