25.000.000 US$ repair...

I was just flying from Osaka to Hong-Kong, when suddenly the oil temperature of engine #2 started to increas. I reduced speed, looked
for the next suitable airport, declared an emergency and switched off engine #2.
After landing I got a repair bill over 25.000.000 US$ because the engine was completely damaged.
In the incident report it says that the power was not reduced resulting in a complete engine failure, but I switched off the engine
before it failed!

Had a DC-10 stranded in New Zealand for about two weeks due to a busted engine after I emtied my account to buy the thing. Cost was ~26mil and
while I didn't shut it down I did idle it. Flight report commented that it wasn't into the ground but I was back to "Flying the Chain" in my trusty
ol' 732 until I could afford to get it fixed. Hope you're able to get it flying again soon and make back your missing funds

Which plane was this? PMDG, freeware, other? I wonder if this could not be a gauge problem. ie: the aircraft model uses custom made
gauges for the engine.s Since FsP is queued to monitor the basic FS2004 gauges, it wouldn't catch you shutting down the engine and
would register it as an engine failure.

Let us know which plane you're using and I'll ask Dan to look at this to give us his thoughts on the issue.

Yep, it was the PMDG 747-400, and now that you mention it, when I switched off the engine, my copilot said something like "we have just
lost one engine...". Did not care a lot about his comments, since I was busy in preparing the visual approach to Oita.

Maybe it failed just as you were shutting it down.

You don't need to switch it off. You can simply reduce the power of the problemed engine.

Ok... I reduce the power of the faulty engine... as soon as I touch the throttles... it comes up from its idle position... On a manual approach
I cant take care of four engines with the mouse, or did I miss something?

Assuming you cought it early enough bringing the power up a bit during the landing cycle shouldn't kill it. Just go easy on the reverse.

theoretically I understood what you mean, now could you tell me how I do that practically with four engines in FS9?
Because when I move my throttles on my stick, whereever I position one engine, it will move all four together, and in this way I will blow
my faulty engine.

hi,

you can keep that engine idle(eg. engine 3) by pressing(hold) E+1+2+4.

just remember to press E+1+2+3+4 before you end the flight(after shutdown and everything) in case the settings remain for the next flight.

I accidently pressed E+1 on a B1900 last time and when i hit full throttle for takeoff, it went in circles and my plane started to fill with puke

I would have probably forgotten it
