Hot food, CTD and Upgrade

Hi,

In fact I'm putting forward three different issues here. The two latter ones may be related though.

1. I have the default keyboard assignment for serving hot food "ctrl.+shift+H". I have rechecked that this is the status in the relevant setup-
screen. Nevertheless, FSP won't let me serve my passengers hot food anymore in my B 737-530. I had no problem with this before.
The duration of the airborne flight is about 2 H 45 M. After about 20 min after take-off I start serving drinks. No problem. After 10
min more I try to serve hot food. Nothing happens. I try and try and try. No reaction. Then I serve sandwiches. No problem.
This is the situation for every flight now - no more hot food. I have made a new set-up, although I still use the same key assignment,
and the problem is still there. I do not use the key assignment "ctrl.+shift+H" for anything else - QUITE SURE)

2. I have made lot of flights with FSP now, but only a few are successful as I have CTD most of the times. I have noticed that the CTDs
always comes short after the announcement about descending to our destination. I don't know the relevance oft this observation, but it
is a fact. ( And it is annoying of course, as it' happens in the last phase of the flight, causing such waste of time. ) When not using
FSP, there are no CTDs.

3. I'm periodically checking for new up-dates as advised to. However, the text in the advice may be a little misleading. It gives the
impression that "the system" automatically checks if one has an older version than that being available. Not being aware of this I
have been upgrading three times, as I am told there is a new upgrade available every time I make a check. Now I know that the FSP-
upgrade-"feature" does not check your current version, but the version you bought in the first place.
OR: Am I wrong ? Have I not succeeded with the upgrading and this is the reason I have so many CTDs ? Or is there anything else I
have misunderstood. You know the most of the times problems is related to the end-user himself or his computer
configuration, other addons and so on.

EDIT:
I just got the thought that I should test the hot food serving in another plane, so I did. In my MD 11 everything works fine. It could parhaps be useful to know the logic of the serving functions in FSP, maybe I have been doing something wrong when serving hot food in the 737....???

i did not either, but had the same problem (you dont have rc4 by any chance do you?) anyway i changed the key assignment to
ctrl+shift+A and not had a problem since

are you getting a box that pops up and says that a new version is available? If so you might not be downloading the most latest version,
but instead a cacheded versions... try clearing your cookies/cache then download the program and reinstall...

As soon as I'm back in that left pilot seat again I'll certainly try this. Like in your case, it seems that this only happens in one spesific
plane.

ctrl+shift+A and not had a problem since

Yepp, I have rcv4 and ctrl+shift+H is not in use there, but I will also test your solution anyway. It has to be with another letter than A though,
as that letter is in use for the "co-pilot toggle" in rcv4 (just to keep having the M for mayday call in FSP). I assume you got the rcv4
yourself, so you know what I mean....

I didn't quite get that one, but have a feeling you may have some important point here, because when looking after according to this
reply......

........ I found that the version by me still is ver. Aug 06-2005, although I have been running the update process with the sept
05 2005 three times now.

I will try the update once more and react (or call out a mayday here at the forum) if this pop-up occures.

Regarding the CTD-problem I am afraid I have used wrong term here. It is not actually a "full" CTD. What happens is that the screen
goes black, but the sound is still there. Then when opening Windows task manager everything is reported running, untill FS9 suddenly
brakes down and the not responding window shows. ( You know, "restart FS9? - do you want to send error report ?".....)

A last thing.: I also have got that sneeking feeling that FS Real Time-addon may have something to do with this all. I will however start
with those above mentioned suggestions and don't mess up everything with too many variables at one time.

yep rc4 does not use the ctrl+shift+h, but moving that key after installing rc4 worked for me.

try updating by simply downloading the latest version from this site.....install it over the top of the version you already have and then unlock
it again with your code. This will update the version to the latest and all your company stats etc will remain in tact

It's incredible; I have been upgrading just the way you tell. In fact I did it once I had downloaded and registrated FSP. I then couldn't tell
the difference of course, since I had nothing to compare against. But I noticed the bakup-folder and thought everything was fine thinking
the menue-about-version-status should show the version i bought. As I told, however, I even downloaded and installed the upgrade for
additionally a secondly and a third time as I was notified that a newer version was available when I pushed that check-for new-versions-
button.. Today I just installed the latest download once more - AND I'VE GOT MYSELF THE NEW VERSION !!!!!?????????????????
Well, I can't stop wondering how this has been possible, but as I've got the sept 05 2005 this time it will pehaps be a little un-
usefull bothering with this issue anymore.

It seems now that I don't have to try out the proposions about the hot food as this works fine now.

However, now I experience really CTDs ALL the time.

I first started a FSP-flight to try the hot-food command with the new version- everything OK, so I aborted the flight and started the same
FSP-flight, but this time with FS Real Time - everything OK, and I aborted just after having started the serving of hot food. Then I started
the same flight again, and this time by activating the Active Sky 6. Served hot food, everything OK, but this time I kept on flying along my
route. After a short while CTD. Started all over again-same active programs-same procedures-I came to the destination airport, then
CTD.

So as you see, to systematically check this failure out, I will need time as it will be time consuming repeating the flight over and over
again, trying all combinationsof the addon programms. Then doing this with another flight plan or dep./destination airports....

Asit may be interesting for others that read this forum to hear about eventually problems with combinations of different addons, I will
come back to it - but as I said, it will take some time.

Maybe now you guys probably would know more about my system config.: It is as follows:

Asus P5WD2 Premium, I955X, Socket-775 SATAII, ATX, Dual-GbLAN, DDR2, PCI-Ex16

Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 1024MB CL5 Kit

Intel Pentium 4 3.6 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT with Driver Version 6.14.10.8421

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

Well, at last I seem to have found the way out of this mess As the problem got worse and worse, not only CTD, but completly shut
down time after time, I noticed that the CPU temperature went higher than it used to(35-38 C). Now the temperature was 42 to 45 C. I
have a huge cabinet/tower (with a lot of fans ), which I periodically open and hoover with great care. So dust could not be the problem.

Finally I got an error message with the proposion of turning off the hardware accelleratiion. Well that is weird. Why should I have an
expensive graphic card if it's functions shall be disabled. So I downloaded older versions of drivers for the graphic card and found that
the NVIDIA version 81.95 seems to be OK. I have made test-flights with FSP, AS6, FS Real Time and RCv4.01, all simultaneously
activated, witout any problems. Also the CPU temerature is back to what it used to be. Unfortunatly I'm not able to look at those videos at http://www.airsidetv.com anymore. ( I only hear sound ). So, perhaps I should try an even older version of the NVIDIA drivers.

You see, it's not allways the right solution to install latest driver. I think a lot of us have experienced that older versions often work better
with FS. I installed the newest driver before the problems occured just because we get notified and recommended all the time about
upgrading to the newest version available.

It seems now that the old expression "if it works, don't fix it" still is valid !

Also, when you have a graphic driver problem; try out older versions as well - in case the newest does not solve your problem.

i have drivers 7.7.7.2

whenever i have updated them, i get problems within fs9 of things not showing, like the fsp mini display etc, and always end up going
back tot hese ones. May not work in your situation, but you could give them a try (thou i have different card, i have the 6600GT)

By George, you got it. I tried to remember the first driver I installed after having assembled my computer - It was not the 7.7.7.2, but the
7.7.7.4. !! You surely helped me track down this one. I will search for this driver again and give it a try with the addons I have installed
since then. I also had no trouble with the Windows Media Player b y the time I had the 7.7.7.4.
