landing touchdown

After printing the flight report,at the end of a flight,there are several flighting parameters.One of these is landing touchdown,usually with a
minus sign and in ft/m e.g.-535.38ft/m.What does this really mean?Thanks in advance.

Basically the vertical speed at which you touch the runway.

It means that you hit the runway while sinking with a speed of 535.38 feet per minute. Which is quite "ouch, lets tell the maintenance guys to get a
new gear ready" I might add.

Aim for sinking speeds > 100 ft/min, monitor the VSI closely shortly before touching down.

that is you vertical velocity when you touched the ground. ie. how hard you hit. Bigger negative number means a rougher landing, if it gets too big
you can damage the wheels, or even crash the plane and kill everybody

Ok I was not technicaly accurate. VSI is an instrument. It Indicates Vertical Speed. Vertical Speed at touching down moment is what is
reflected in the flight logo. Allways shown as fpm (feet per minute).
