FAA Pilots Hearing Requirements

Hi, Im 17 and have mild hearing loss. Everything below 1500 Hz (the low frequencies) i have 40 Decibles of hearing loss. I suffered from
Sudden Sensory Hearing Loss after i went scuba diving. This also led my eustachion tubes to completely close and my ear drum to scab
(disgusting), ive had steroid injections into my ear and tht fixed the problem but i just have trouble hearing. So I was wondering if i would
be able to have my private pilots licence with a hearing aid? Ive been wanting to fly for long as i can remember. Please let me know.

Also, as above, it would be a good idea to consult a FAA certified physician in your area. Usually if you can hear a normal tone of voice,
you are good to go with a Private rating.

Low frequency hearing loss? That sucks a lot man, I'm sorry. Best hearing loss is anything in the range of your wife's voice.

HAHAHA im not there yet man hahaha ill keep that in mind and how do i find an FAA Physician in my area? And would a hearing aid
prevent me from getting my licence?

Follow this link this should get to the page where u can find an FAA Physician http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/ . And as far as hearing
aid goes I think you can get a class 3 medical, which is all you need to be a private pilot, and also search arround the internet for some
information about getting a waiver from the FAA for bad hearing.

class 3 is for balloons and for ultra lights , ( isn't this the same everywhere? )

No in the US a class 3 is used for PP. Sourkraut, if you do end up getting disqualified because of your hearing, don't worry, you can still be a Sport
Pilot, which requires only a US driver's license as proof of medical suitability.

It does not actually matter what class youre in. Any and all pilots are expected to be able to understand radio communications without any
devices aiding them.
For such I am sorry to say a hearing aid does not solve your issue

I think the human voice is between 80 and 250hz or something like that. If you can hear that just fine you might be okay.

Ya i just got back from the EMT today and my hearing has improved some so no hearing aid. My firend's dad is the CO of VRC-40 (Navy
Squadron) and he took a copy of my hearing test and said that he will give to his flight surgeon. So this weekend ill find out if ill accepted
into flight school when i join. And if this is the case then Do you guys happen to now if the Army and Marines have the same hearing
requirements as the Navy. I wanna be a helicopter pilot for the Army or Marines.

Turns out you want to go fly for the military originally u said you just want a a PPL. If i was you I would go and talk to the recruiter and find
out first hand about the requirments. I know that military is very strict about medical requirments especially for pilots, as they want to be
sure that after spending millions on ur training you wont be flaged from flying a year later. So before you sign any contract make sure you
are qulified to be a pilot. And its a long comitment, a buddy of mine has been in Army helicopter school for the past 2 years and still has
probably like 6 month left, and after that he has a 5 year contract. Also keep in mind you have to be a warrant officer to fly helicopters for
the army, so i think you need a BS degree in order to be able to go in as a warrant officer, or if you dont want to go to college you can serve
a contract as an enlisted and than try to become a warant officer, at least thats what my friend did. So best of luck to you I hope everything

I am a retired Army Warrant officer (you can guess what I flew by my name). First thing to correct is that you DO NOT need a college
degree at all to qualify for flight school in the Army. I will say that any post high school education will make your application look better. It
is a great idea to have a current flight surgeon have a look at your results, but keep in mind that Navy/Marine standards may be different
than current Army standards, on the bright side there are always waivers if you are border-line.
Now on to real life. The hardest part of flight school is getting in. The Navy does require a degree (it doesn't matter in what). The Army
does not. Now the big one. The recruiter. Remember that you can shop for a recruiter just like a doctor, if he does not seem
knowledgeable or helpful say thank you and go somewhere else. You will be involved with this person for a long time, a flight packet is
an exhaustive thing to put together. I also promise they will tell you that it is easier to get in from the inside as an enlisted person.
Peronally, I fell for this line, but do not regret it one bit. I joined as a Chinook mechanic and worked my way up to Cre Chief on flight
status and given my own helicopter (in the Army the bird belongs to "The Chief" the pilots are given the honor of flying it). You need to
decide for yourself what route you want to take.

When i got my first class 3 medical I found out my right ear had a lil bit of hearing loss in it, i hate that beep test they do
