Good deal.
The virtual memory (page file) is kind of a "band-aid" fix IMHO, but it does work. ![]() ![]()

Well that's a new one, it crashed overnight with an error message this time, basically FS9 minimized itself and a message popped up : "insuffucient
memory, imminent closure of flight simulator", I alt tabbed back to MSFS it was still running (on pause) but everything was blurry, when I clicked ok I got the "FS9 must close blah blah blah" with error in flight.dll I did get a popup in the tray "disk space on disk G: is getting low, to launch disk cleaner etc etc ..." but the thing is, my pagefile is on disk C:, disk G is only the disk where FS9 is installed ![]() any thoughts guys ? is it just a coincidence or should I be worried ?

Well it's no good, I've just had another no error CTD on final
![]() any other ideas guys ? ![]() Post Edited ( 07-09-06 16:17 )

which airport were you landing at? is it one of the add on airport? go back to that airport and start a flight and see if it happens. Also for
the low memory thats better to know that not knowing at all. usually since everything is generated into your random access memory (RAM) to work with your files until you shut down your computer, it could have ran out of it while other things were running. how much ram are you working with? also for your last thread, if it crashes at the start of the flight or within the area maybe using the cessna. do couple landings and see what happens..... Good luck. We will have you running. Plz empty your temp folder often and also recycle bin to keep memory low

Well I was landing at Heathrow, where I have only UT installed, the airport and everything else in the area is completely default for all the UK, I
took the cessna for a ride and did about a dozen touch and goes there and it didn't CTD, I did as you suggested and removed all temporary files and emptied the recycle bin I have 1GB of ram,a 2.7Ghz P4, a Geforce 7800 GS, and a Sb live! 5.1 soundcard Cheers for help mate ![]()

Also I forgot to mention, about 10-15 minutes after the CTD my computer, turned itself off alone (not a
reboot, I mean shut down like there was a power failure, except that can't be it, it has power protection with a battery so it doesn't shutdown immediately in that case), then after a few seconds, turned itself on again like nothing happened, I swear this computer has a mind of it's own, does what it wants whenever it wants, almost as stutborn as I am ![]() Could this indicate something relevant to my problem ? it's the first time it does that Cheers for all the assistance so far ![]()

I just had a CTD flying into Westchester County Airport in New York. Re-flew the exact same flight but this time created a flight fresh, and had no problem. This
is the typical pattern for my computer. After a while I get CTD's at airports that used to work, I create a new flight same time, place weather etc. and fly and land without a problem. The thing with my system is that it always happens when I contact ground to taxi to the gate or parking. ![]()

Well Serviceman First thing I'd try, given the season and if t's getting hot where you live is opening your computer case, checking if every fan is
working correctly, if you don't clean them often do it now, you may get a 10-15°C difference if there is a lot of dust in the fans (that's what I got), and depending on the temperature putting a "real" fan blowing inside the case, see if it helps I stumbled across a thread about CTD's when handed over to ground while I was searching for my specific problem, I'll see if I can dig it up for you, might be infos you can use in there Good luck mate

My cpu runs a 60deg C because I overclock. Temp or clock doesn' t seem to matter; the safe limit for my Pentium 4 is 69 deg C. It runs at
48 to 50 deg C when I am not overclocking. I am making do by just starting a new flight fresh when I plan to fly into a controlled airport. That seems to work except for Republic airport (KFRG), but I think it is just that the traffic, scenery and sound just overwhelm my computer. I clean my fans often. I am gonna crack open the case again soon to get some more ram in the box. That should smooth things up a bit. I appreciate any info you can dig up though, TIA.

Okay, if you increased the swap file and now are getting an OOM error, you have a memory leak...at least, that is my guess with about
90% certainty. So, memory leak....where to start...it could be anything really...a missing texture, a bad BGL, etc, etc, etc. I had this issue once upon a time as well and the solution that I came to was to backup my entire FS folder and then uninstall it. I then reinstalled, patched, and installed all of the payware stuff. Payware stuff is generally safe due to the fact that it is beta tested for problems such as leaks, etc. I would then start adding the freeware stuff testing each one before installing the next. I suspect that something in there isn't working asvit should. Either that or, you just have too much stuff installed. While MS doesn't make it known ang nd I don't have any hard data to back this up, I suspect that there is a "breaking point" for FS that varies by the individual user's setup. Everytime you fire up FS, everything you have loads up. There has to be a ceiling somewhere. Oh, and I see you're using UT. In case I didn't mention it yet, UT Europe had a memory leak it in resolved in the latest patch put out by them. Visit Simforums.com if you want more info on that. ![]()

Well the OOM error didn't reproduce itself, the no error CTD did on the other hand
it is really a bummer, everytime I think I've fixed it, it comes back again after a few days, my computer runs stable and has passed all benchmarking tests, my CPU is staying at a steady 50°C when running FS9, I've tried with disabling all sceneries, and other add-ons, honestly the answer is beyond my computer experience ![]() I've spent too much time trying to fix this already, and it's starting to ruin my experience, so I've contacted fs-gs, I will report back on the quality of the service, Of course if you guys have an Idea that might save me 60 euros I'm all ears ![]() Serviceman : I'm really sorry mate but my laptop just died, and I was using it for web browsing, so I can't dig that post from the history anymore, I've tried looking for it but I just can't remember on what forums I saw that ![]() Oh and yes UT is patched to the last version Cheers to anyone that took the time to try and help me, greatly appreciated

Saving you 60 Euros...
They're gonna tell you to reinstall FS. With the ton of addons you undoubtedly have, you'll never straighten it out without deleting one by one until the problem clears. Reinstalling is much easier. ![]() |
