FSP.....is this normal??

Today I downloaded the FSPassengers demo off of this site, after I got everything set up I started to taxi down the runway. Then as soon
as I get rolling my plane starts to turn left fairly drasticly. After I get into the air it keep turning as if the rudder is stuck left. I have the auto
rudder setting engaged and it doesnt do this in normal FS9 flights.

I checked my joystick settings and re-calibrated

Tried playing with out the joystick plugged in

Tried all other aircraft

Removed and reinstalled both FS9

Re- downloaded FSP

I'm out of ideas here.........unless it just supposed to act that way I guess. I dont think its any kind of prop-gyro thing either because all the
jets do it too.

Anyone have any ideas? or a place to point me for help??

Please give a little more details. What aircraft did it happen in? Are you positive you joystick is calibrated? I use the X-52 and I didn't know that
there was a little rudder trim knob which wasn't centered. So in the beggining I kept kicking myself in the head and trying to explain why my PMDG 747 was always turning left when taxiing. But I found the problem was the my rudder trim knob was not centered.

Why don't you try to disengage autorudder and try controlling the rudder yourself. That might help. Also, you how are your realism settings? I suggest you fly with max realism.


Some airplanes turn a lot on the takeoff roll and you must work hard to keep them near the centerline. Mostly small props, as I have noticed, tend to drift. Jets don't do this as much. I usually have a much easier time keeping a Boeing near the centerline than a Cessna.


Now as far as I know, this isn't a known problem with FsP. I have been using FsP for about a year now and nothing has happened to me so far. A lot of other people also have flown with it for a long time and don't experience problems like this. Do you get any error messeges?

Are you using real world weather in an area with high winds

Or someting like "Major Thunder Storm"?

It happens in all airplanes, from the skyhawk to the 737.

Yea I'm postive my joystick is calibrated, regular FS9 works just fine too,

I've tried centering the rudder controls using the auto-center (default is 5 I believe) and also using the pedals,

I should try and use the rudders more but with it like this I have to trim them out almost all the way to the left, realism is set custom with
auto rudder on.

No I dont recieve any error messages.

I'm not using any real weather or anything, just stock FS9 calm weather.



It's really weird because it only does this in the FSP part of the game, but when I switch to FS9 after playing FSP then I get the samw
problem till I restart the game.

I had a similar problem but it turned out to be a calibration problem. I have a thrustmaster with separate throttle and use the rudder "flap"
thing on the back of the throttle to control yaw. Sometimes, if it's not setup right, if you breath on it, it pulls left. Then, if you push it full left,
it goes straight - makes me feel like I'm hydroplaning trying to take a corner at 25 knots and I keep going straight! Not sure if has
anything to do with dead zones or what - I just re-calibrate it when it happens and everything's good.

No after a while and afew restarts the aircraft was working fine again

I think that I may have found out what the problem was........if so, man I feel stupid.

I normally use the default weather in FS9 which I just found out has calm winds all the time, when I started FSP I think that it sets it to a
higher realism for winds. I tuned the ATIS and saw there was a 16mph crosswind, now that doesn't seem like a lot to me but I haven't
flown in wind so who knows.

Anyone here that can verify a 16mph wind knocking the plane fairly hard left??

if 16knt crosswind is stron depnets on the plane. But for sure you 'feel' it when running on the rwy. In the air the effect is much less 'feel
able' Usually you set your heading a little more to the wind then the course you want to fly to fly the planed course. Only when you have a
direct sight of a reference (the rwy in approach) you directly see how you are drifting because of the wind.

Did you check in the outside view if your 'control surfaces' are all centered especially the rudder and the front wheel?
Also check about the control indicators in the cockpit view. I believe the learjet has them or another of the original aircrafts.

if the rudder there is not centered I remeber that there was a key once to center the controll.
Qlso after using autopilot the aircraft should be flying stright..

First, check to see which side the x-wind is coming from. If the x-wind is coming from your left, then it sure isn't what is turning your plane left.
If its blowing from your right, then is probably is. At taxi speed, 16 knots isn't enough to sharply veer you of course. But once you start
accelarating, you have to work those ailerons and rudder pedals to avoid having this happen. 16 knots is pretty strong even for a jet, let alone a cessna.

Just another questions- do all aircraft veer at the same rate? or does it differ from a cessna to a boeing.

Use SHIFT-Z in FS to display the wind-speeds that are currently active (and a lot more besides - press SHIFT-Z repeatedly to cycle
through all the displays).

Bear in mind that if the wind is showing 180deg / 16 knots, and your takeoff runway is 27 (heading 270 deg), then the wind will be coming
from your left side (the wind direction is always quoted as where the wind is coming FROM).

Obviously, if the wind is not conveniently at 90 degrees to the runway heading, the crosswind component (the factor influencing your side-
to-side motion) will be less than the amount quoted on the SHIFT-Z display. You can use a web-tool here:
http://www.aeroplanner.com/calculators/avcalcdrift.cfm - to calculate your current crosswind component pretty easily.

A 16kt crosswind-component is definitely significant! Depending on the plane, you can counteract it by proper use of aileron/rudder,
sometimes up to as far as 20kt crosswind-comp without too much difficulty. Much more than that, though, and you'll find things get very
hard, seemingly exponentially!

Even an 8kt crosswind component is something worthy of special consideration on landing...

You might find that because you're using FSP's choice of weather, if you're on the same runway every time, and FSP is choosing the
same settings every time (not sure if it does this), then the 'pull' will always seem to be in the same direction. That might account for why
it seems 'consistent'. So.. use that SHIFT-Z menu to see if it really IS!

Yeah. My light planes don't taxi straight in winds as light as 5 or 6 knots, 10-20 is really difficult to stay straight considering I still have a
cheepie joystick with no rudder at all and have to control with the keyboard.
