The problem with emergancy situations in this game

When you have an emergancy, you have to squak 7700, lest you suffer a penalty, right? But when you switch to 7700, whatever controlling agency you
are near doesnt recognize you as being in distress. If you are IFR, they will cancel it unless you switch back to whatever they tell you to squak.
And no one ever gives you landing priority.

Is there anyway around this?

This is a FS9 limitation more than a problem with FsP. Since FS9 doesn't have a recognized "declare emergency" mode, there is not
much that FsP can do for you as far as the ATC communications go. As far as FS9 goes, they don't know you are having an emergency,
all they know is you changed your squak code. Then when you don't respond to their demands to change your code back, they drop your
flight plan.

As far as clearing the runway goes, there is a simple workaround for this until MS releases FS10 which will hopefully integrate some kind
of emergency landing mode....after you declare the emergency, just press Ctrl, then go into your menu to Traffic settings. Uncheck both
the commercial and General Aviation boxes. Now you will have the runways and skies to yourself so you can land (or crash) your plane
in peace. Just remember to turn the traffic back on once you reach terra firma.

Oh yea I agree. I wasnt implying that this was an issue with FsP. I just wish there was a more "realistic" way around this. Would it be possible
for someone to create a program that adds emergancy landings to FS2004? (sorry if this is a stupid question. Keep in mind I dont know crap about
programing)

I don't think it is a stupid question...there are programmers out there with unbelievable skills (DanSteph being one of them). I'm sure the
possibility is out there somewhere, it's just a matter of figuring it out and programming it.

I'm sure that about 2 years ago people would have said you were asking a stupid question if you asked, "Would it be possible to program
random failures, like one where the landing gear won't go down fully and you can actually see it??? And what if you could do a touch and
go to dislodge the gear???" Now look at what Dan has done with FsP...pretty much what we thought would be impossible a while ago.

My point is...dont' give up hope, it may happen. In the meantime make the best of what you got, it's a whole helluva lot better than vanilla
FS9!

You can also turn off the transponder penalty, so you can still declare an emergency, but don't have to change xpndr codes. However, the
way I do it is if the emergency requires re-routing to a closer airport, I swk 7700, let FS cancel my existing IFR while I determine where I'm
going to land, then quickly file an "amended" IFR plan from my original point of departure to the new emergency airfield. Takes only a
minute, and I would assume that's similiar to real world (not that I would know, since my real flight experience is limited to the comfy
seats outside the front office).

You have a few more options. As soon as the emergency happens, load a new IFR plan to a new destination. Make sure that you DO
NOT move your aircraft to the new departure point. From here on, you'll be IFR to your new alternate landing place. When you reach DH,
simply type K7700 to set your transponder.

Yeah, when you need to declare an emergancy, the ATC's should give you priority, im always stuck trying to find out which airports are closest to me.
If there was a way to do this, then that would be an excellent add-in (besides FsP ofcourse )

There's always VoxATC, the only downside is you can only 'hear' other traffic not see it.

Even better, how about this: Cancel your IFR flight plan, and squawk whatever the hell you want... lol That's what I do when FS ATC acts
up in any way. I.e. vectoring me to 12,000ft when I'm on the ILS at KLAX... hapened the other day.
