Payload Editor Error

I am creating a new payload model for a 727 cargo. After making the entries in the patload editor, when I try to save the new .ini file, I get
an error dialog that states "Only 16 characters allowed for station name". What is this referring to and what do I need to do to save this
new file?

i assume it means where you have named the stations ie Business class - front cargo, you have named one with over 16 characters,
eg, 'business class' is 14 characters

That was my first thought. Being a cargo aircraft, I have disabled the 4 pax stations. The two cargo stations are named "Ft Cargo" and "Rr
Cargo"....nowhere near 16 characters. I even checked the station names in the aircraft.cfg file. Max there is 14.

Okay...this time I started over from scratch. I didn't do anything different (that I am aware of) and now there is no error when saving.
However, once in FS9 and attempt to start FsP, I get a error message that tells me the .ini file cannot be loaded. When I click OK, the load
dialog opens without an image. When I use the drop-down menu to select a different .ini file for the same aircraft (727), that image
opens, then when I reselect the new .ini file from the dropdown, the image loads properly and everything works fine from that point on. I
have followed the file naming convention per the help and tutorial. The image is a jpg, and as I stated above, does load when selected
from the dropdown. Any ideas? And, yes, I have checked the FAQ and hve read the tutorials for creating payload models

Okay...since there has been no response to his question, I guess that means that nobody has any idea what the problem is????

Hi Bob.
Sorry for slow responce, I was a bit busy for last few days.
Now to the topic.

What you describing here, seems to be two different problems.

First one is self explaining - you have station names longer than 16 chars. Yes, I know that you have disabled all of them except the cargo
stations, but there was probably the long name in the one of the disabled stations somwhere. I think it could be the most probable
reason of your first problem.

Second problem, with freaky payload model loading has a different nature. I have encountered this problem sometime ago. If you have
the same, then you can work around it by removing spaces form the payload model file name.
It seems, that FsP can not load correctly default payload models if they have spaces in the file name.

If it does not help, I can give you some general advices as to what you can try:
- use short filename for .ini and .jpg used;
- try to avoid characters other than letters and digits in the .ini file name (and no spaces, of course);
- if all this does not help, try to change numbers that you enter in payload stations a bit. For example, you can not enter 26 in any
passengers station, it will not work correctly.

If this all does not help, you can send your payload model to me on: fspsm{at}nm.ru, so that I can take a closer look at it.
Maybe I would be able to help then.

I named my payload .ini file 727-200F (cargo).ini I used this naming convention because there are a number of others named the same
and the help file specifies using a space. I will try you suggestions and post the results.

Ah yes! This IS the same problem!
Name it like this:
727-200F(cargo).ini
It will still recognise your plane by the "727-200F" part, and will load properly by default.
Yes, there are many payload models (including mine ) that ae called like this (with a space). And they work fine, but only as long as they
are not recognised as default by FsP. If you pick this kind of payload model from the list. it will load perfectly, but if it becomes the first one
in the list, and FsP will try to load it automatically just when the loading dialogue pops up, you'll get the same problem with anyone of
them
But as I say, just remove the space, and it will be ok!

I removed the space and it still would not load...but when I removed (cargo) it loads fine. The file now is "727-200F"; which is okay
because the other two that are in the dropdown are "727" and "727-200". the "F" indicates it is a cargo aircraft anyway (Freight).
