No Movies in 1955 ??

On an otherwise trouble free flight from KLAX to Benito Juarez MMMX discovered that I was unable to show the
movie. Flight was in a DC-
6B, October 1955 cruising at 192 KIAS at 23,000 feet with 44 passenders and frieght. Is the ability to play a movie
tied to airspeed? I
repeatedly got the F/A stating that "..we are unable to do that yet" message. Plied the pax with strong drinks
instead, seven in 5 hours 43
minutes, so that they didn't even notice the hard nosewheel first landing (never been to Mexico City or landed a Six
at 7300' ASL before,
aircraft stalled just as the mains touched down) and collected a whack of points. No biggie but am curious as to
why the movie wouldn't
play. Thanks in

Its tied to the year. There were no inflight movies in 1955

True that there were movies in 1955, however there weren't inflight movies in 1955 (as SwiftFoxLit stated).

I can accept that rationale but had heard (read?) that Lufthansa was showing films and news reels as early as 1937 on some of their
long range European flights. But perhaps not. In any event, keeping the pax stuffed with munchies and booze seems to keep them
happy and limiting it to a drink an hour or so seems to prevent drunkeness problems. So no movies on those long oceanic night
crossings; oh well. Thanks for clearing that up.

Back then the Germans were technologically ahead of everyone else, but I still doubt the newsreel thing. They would've still needed a
projector at the back of the plane with a white screen up front. CRT's hadn't been invented back then.
