FSPX Map Feature Explanation Needed

Hello. I have heard that FSPX enables better maps able to track flights over the ground. Is this done through GPS? I have read all of the
FSPX documentation but still have the question. What benefit is it for me to import a map identifying LON x - LAT x? Not sure I understand
the part about pixel ratios to distance needed. Help!
