More RAM + Better Graphics Card

I done a search of this forum for the word RAM and as far as i am aware i couldn't see anything relating to my question.

Basically my question is if I was to get more RAM and a better graphics card on the computer would this have an effect on FsPassengers
in any way, shape or form?

Nope, not specifically on FsP. Depending on what you have now, a better CPU would make the most difference for FS9

but a great cpu in combination with a 5 years old grafics card is not really an advantage ^^

True, i have an AMD Athlon 64 3500 2.2ghz, now in my mind this is not bad by any stretch, but i have 1gb ram and a geforce 7600gs.


If i get another GB of RAM and geforce 7800gtx, which i am planning, i will see a BIG difference overall


Which leads me to my next question, commonly when running Fs9, i will have MSN, Firefox, ZoneAlarm and Avast! running in the
background, now, correct me i i'm wrong, but my CPU usage shouldnt be at 100% :shock:

This may be because the partition i installed my OS on was critically low on space (im reinstalling now (on my other pc at the moment ))

Any ideas?

As for RAM it also depends a lot on what your MB will do with the added RAM.

When I upgraded my system early this year I failed to realize that DDR2 works best if you pair compatible memory sticks on both channels, because then
the chipset will shovel data at 128 bits width in and out of the RAM. Thus, adding another 1GB two weeks ago not only doubled the size but also the
speed of my memory, which had quite an impact on performance because it can hold more textures and push them faster into the graphics board (ATI X1600
Pro 512MB).

So just in case you face the same situation (unpaired RAM configuration on two channels on a dual channel board), do your homework and make sure you
get memory sticks with the same size, speed, chip configuration and CAS latency. Any of those things unmatching and your motherboard might decide just
not to activate dual channel operation.

My ASUS P5B board is happy with 2x 1GB PC5300 with 5ns CAS latency. Both modules are implemented with 16 64MB chips, 8 on each side. The board doesn't
care that the modules are from different vendors, but I read that some boards are more picky.
