[VIDEO] Cockpit 737 bumpy approach EHAM

A while ago I was in the cockpit of a 737-300, while landing at A'dam airport Schiphol.

It was pretty bumpy and we landed at the shortest runway, 4-22 and as you can see: reverser used, well below 60 knots.

We had a huge discussion on the use of reverse thrust below 60 KIAS. In most cases it is acceptable to use reverse thrust with one of the primary
concerns being a clean runway. In fact there was a time when powerbacks were authorized as opposed to being pushed back by a tug. This was with
aircraft that used older turbojet as opposed to turbofan engines or of course turboprops could also powerback. One of the concerns with powerback was
the noise that the aircraft made. Many airfields will now allow you to powerback based on noise sensitivity.

I have found the requirement to powerback a King Air on a number of occasions. This happens mostly overseas when ground is insistent on taxing me into
a tight area when I can not just turn around. Usually a push back costs extra money and some places do not have the correct tow bar for a King Air.
Thus when in those situations one of the pilots gets out to ground guide and the other carefully powerbacks the airplane using the reverses.

FSPX is based on my generalizations. Generally flaps are required for take-off but not always, generally you need to be out of reverse by 60 KIAS but
again not always. Clearly if you need the reverse thrust it is acceptable to use it right down to 0 Knots as long as you don't exceed an aircraft or
operational limit in doing so. Some of us can still use reverses to perform the old powerback trick. Try it yourself one day, boot up FSX load up the
King Air 350, release the breaks and use reversers to back up the airplane. When you want to stop use forward thrust to slow and stop the airplane. If
you even think about touching the breaks you could tail stand the airplane.

I used to love using the reversers to push back in props...

Now the tug just doesnt give me that satisfaction

Metro, nice. I met some guys who were flying the old sausage tube.

They flew in on the Metro III and we were in the King 300. They were complaining about the weather and routing and we were thinking yep about 5
minutes to climb over that stuff. Then we got the rest of their story about the Metro III. They did not have any Area Nav equipment, the autopilot was
out of service, and something was keeping them below 15,000' (yaw damp or pressurization). We left them to their misery as the Captain and FO was arguing who would get stuck as the PF on the next leg.
