How can anyone actually say that it will be exactly the same? I'm not saying your wrong, obviously, but people are basing their knowledge on a pre-release demo, and I know that Microsoft have said that they have improved the system slightly, one of the improvements is the increased speech rate, and more voices which now have regional accents.
Maybe we will be surprised when the actual product is released. FS9 atc was pretty much identical to FS2002, bar the altitude change requests etc etc, I actually think that there will be small improvements like this to FSX. Until the product hits the shelf we will not know for definate. Post Edited ( 08-26-06 16:16 )

To support international accents would be virtually impossible for us to do as we would have to record thousands of lines for each accent and the accents might get messed up because of how we combine different lines to build the resulting lines you hear. On top of that there are storage space concerns for each accent, so we would probably have to limit the number of accents we could do, and then we would be criticised for not including this accent or that for a particular region of the world. It's just not worth it... For instance one of the requests is to make the voice speak faster and more realistically. Frankly, using the system we have that will NEVER happen. I dont know where you get the increased speech rate and regional accents from either. Have a look at.... http://blogs.technet.com/p-12c_pilot/arc...49488.aspx Post Edited ( 08-26-06 16:37 )

Ive tried the demo and my set up which has cost me hundreds of pounds on addons is 100% better than demo,MS are gonna have to do

Well this is a quote taken from simflight.com regarding the ATC and AI program:
"Traffic and ATC As almost every dedicated flightsim user knows installing AI traffic really adds an extra dimension to the experience. The downside is that additional planes in the sky affect performance. With new technology it is relatively easy to overcome this problem. But how about ATC giving landing clearance to ten planes at a time and handing out go-arounds because there is structural lack of spacing? We asked this question to lead designer Paul Lange. He responded the team was surprised by the effort of the community to add practically every airline in the world. It puts a lot of stress on the ATC system and it was not designed to handle large amounts of traffic. For FSX there WILL BE improvements in ATC, but Lange could not promise a total solution to solve things once and forever. The complexity of planes flying in and out of airports requires a lot of CPU power and because the program only uses a limited amount of frequencies, it is hard to take care of all the IFR flights at the same time. Also with ground operations it is really hard to get planes quickly from one place to the other. However, we will see some improvement in the speed of ATC and there will also be different voices and accents. After take-off from Amsterdam it was really strange to hear a controller with a Dutch accent. Same happened with the barometric pressure. Amsterdam finally uses QNH instead of the boring worldwide ‘altimeter setting’ being used by ATC in FS9 and earlier versions. It is not clear whether FSX also features local transition altitudes and speed restrictions. When we asked there was just a general answer. FSX is a platform and if people want such realism in the sim, then they have the option to create missions or fly online. In short, the in-depth IFR rules will not be included in the basic sim, but it is possible to add the features with missions or by flying online through VATSIM or IVAO." This looks like he flew the BETA, and from what he said there "WILL BE" ATC Improvements, and different accents.... |
