Landind Probs - hyderpotter - 14-04-2012

Had a tire blowout, But how when the aircraft crashed at 05h07 hitting ground at 103 kt with a vert. speed of -228 ft/m

Re: Landind Probs - Shaun Patterson - 14-04-2012

What type of aircraft was it? You may have landed at a higher speed than the aircraft can cope.

Re: Landind Probs - hyderpotter - 14-04-2012

737-800 speed 125

Re: Landind Probs - whiskey-zulu - 14-04-2012

Flaps and slats setting? Were you over the Maximum Landing Weight?

Re: Landind Probs - hyderpotter - 14-04-2012

Flaps 30, Auto Spoilers arm, Do not know know about the Maximum Landing Weight. I had 115 passengers.

Re: Landind Probs - Maraio1 - 14-04-2012

Try Landing at A Higher Speed or Do Not Cut Thrust Until Your About To Land, I Always Have This Problem So Have To Land At Around 150
Knots And At -150 F/M And An Angle Of 5°. What's Your Retard Angle?

Re: Landind Probs - hyderpotter - 14-04-2012

Is 150 too fast for landing? I never seen a post to hand at a higher speed before. I had vert speed around 1800.

Re: Landind Probs - timtomairways - 14-04-2012

Default 737 normaly flys at 140KIAS on approach. With flaps 30 (or 135KIAS with flaps 40) i normally use 30

I fly with a slight noes high probly about 2-3. but slightly below or on the horizon line is not uncommon.

when i start flaring and throttle back is never the same, it all depends on the Approach. best i can say is practice makes perfect.

Your speed is fine, but with a descent rate that high you are blowing out all your tires, crushing your landing gear and more than likely
scrapping the belly of your plane two feet deep into the runway. Try to be more gentle as your plane is a lady not a truck.

-1800?
youd crash youre plane!
try landing at -250 fpm and then you will get a fine landing.

Re: Landind Probs - hyderpotter - 16-04-2012

If I set the vert to -250 on the autopoint? Will that work?

Re: Landind Probs - gbapache - 16-04-2012

You have the right idea. The problem comes from what type of approach are you flying, ILS, Localizer, or visual. You may want to explore
the flying lessons that come with both FS9 and FSX. My technique (by no means perfect but it works for me) is to let the AP fly a smooth
ILS untill about 200 ft. and then I take over manually

I use IFR ILS. At the moment, I going to EGLL Heathrow.Runway 27L or 27R

Also What the right thing to for a miss-approach?

Re: Landind Probs - gbapache - 16-04-2012

This a a very good oppourtunity to enlighten young simmers about what real world flying is like. I can't speak about other countries but in
the US approach plates and VFR / IFR maps expire and get thrown away. I personaly run down to my local FBO and they give me the old
material of my choice that they may still have. My point is "give it a shot" at your local municipal airport. An approach plate is a
complicated animal read but it may give you some insight as to what should be happening.
Anyway for a missed approach the most important thing to do is maintain control of the plane, contact the assigned approach control and
do what they say when flying in any version of MSFS.

Is the same vert for the 747. I know the landing speeds will be different.
