Requesting Opinions regarding FSP and GA Aircraft - Jotayhen - 03-11-2015 I am a member of a small bush flight oriented VA and we are investigating alternative flight performance reporting software options. We typically operate in the Alaska, Yukon Territory, PNW & BC areas. Our aircraft of choice range from high performance commuter twins through most of the amphibs - piston & turboprop down to small single engine low and high wing types. I'm wondering if FSP is designed to tailor its grading perimeters to the individual aircraft in use? For instance, will FSP recognize the different flight characteristics of a Beech Duke (piston or turboprop) and a Kodiak and permit the pilot to operate those aircraft in accordance with their individual flight envelopes? I certainly realize this might be well beyond the design scope of FSP but I thought I would pose the question. Thanks very much. Re: Requesting Opinions regarding FSP and GA Aircraft - darrinward777 - 03-11-2015 Hello, The program does recognize individual aircraft and that is determined by the information within the aircraft,s CFG file and the base information of that make and model. If you run a aircraft that FSP does not recognize you can search this forums " More downloads" and you may find it there. Now in regards to using this program for professional use in possible training, that is a different matter. FSP for FSX is designed for entertainment ( In my opinion ) however it does to a good job of teaching it's users how to run smoother flights with the passengers comfort in mind. The software will report your use of the aircraft's lights and and flaps as well as aircraft stress and damage. It will inform you of your rate of descent and flare upon touchdown. points are removed for failures and rewards you for following procedure. I recommend you download the demo version free and give it a try. The demo version is fully functional and only limits where your base of operations is located, but you can fly anywhere from that location. If you think it might help... use it. Nothing to lose in this case. Post Edited ( 11-03-15 04:55 ) Re: Requesting Opinions regarding FSP and GA Aircraft - Jotayhen - 03-11-2015 Thank you for your reply, darrinward777. I will certainly take your suggestion and DL the demo. In our case we would use FSP in "entertainment scenarios" only.. Past software reporting pgms have routinely failed to allow us to operate "bush type" aircraft in settings that would typically be acceptable for that particular type of aircraft. These programs appear to be geared primarily to larger aircraft. For example we will routinely operate Twin Otters, Beavers, Skywagons, Kodiaks in marginal WX conditions and tight quarters. Prior pgms have penalized us in those situations. In your experience, does FSP allow some flexibility in these situations? Would we be able by inserting information in these aircraft CFG files to cause FSP to recognize and allow things like increased bank angles and rates of climb and descent? How about harder landings and landings on sloped runways? Again, I fully realize I'm asking quite a lot here but these questions arise routinely in our group and so I thought I would approach your community with them. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Re: Requesting Opinions regarding FSP and GA Aircraft - darrinward777 - 03-11-2015 Hi John, Yes I think you have found great software for your needs! You can alter CFG's as needed. You can change many of FSP's operational procedures within the program for each individual aircraft. You could also help this forum by adding any aircraft that might not yet be compiled in it's data base. Best regards, Darrin Ward Post Edited ( 11-03-15 15:43 ) |
