Work in progress:

As said I'm working on "FsPassengers" for FSX , its come up nicely but this its not an easy job,
MS not only have changed adress and stuff but also completely changed the SDK. (Still the SDK
is of a poor help for unique stuff of FsPassengers.)

FsPassengers was unique because it was almost "impossible" to do it for Fs,
all this "impossible" work has to be redone for FsX, I'm on the good way but this
may still take some month.

I understand that some peoples may be really impatient but this is not a "hello world"
program in basic, I'll post more news in this thread as the project evolve.

This said please keep the forum clean of all those "FsP for FsX When" thread,
I know moderator start to be annoyed by this. Wink

Much Thanks

Dan

Looks great and you know we all can't wait! Keep up the great work!

Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - Ali310 - 22-01-2008

Can't wait.. was thinking of getting FSX, but then I found out FsP wasn't compatible yet, so I decided to wait xD

Dan, if it's not too much hassle, could you post little notes about recent progress in your first post please? Smile Like:

Updates:
- Fixed loading bug
- Working on payload (30%)

if not, don't worry. just I'd like to know what's going on Smile since you're so dedicated to FsP.

Yes one big problem is when you have 30 testers in fact you get at best 3-4 only helpfull and active as it should.

Testing is a real art work and there is a world beetween a good tester that "know his job" and someone that "play and report sometime
problems" (not to speak about those that play and never report anything or those that changed they intterest as soon as they got the beta,
those that visit the beta website once per week, those that don't understand even the title of your game etc etc)

A good tester is a mysterious combination of intteligence, maturity, knowledge, dedication and free time to spend for testing:

-Understand that testing is not only "playing and report problems", but a real and serious work that require a lot of efforts.
-Being mature and serious.
-Having a lot of time to dedicate for testing & feedback & discussions.
-Being verbose but straight (and knowing when to shut up, contant requests are as much annoying as no requests or suggestions at all
-Understand the "philosophy" of the "product" and being "in-topic" always ("...hey why not some rail gun that pax can carry and...")
-Knowing how to report bugs and what informations will be usefull for develloper. (no need to be develloper, only logic and inttelligence)
-Good knowledge of games and figuring things by themself. ("...hey how do I launch your game?...where is the doc ?...")
-Respond almost instantly (hours delay, not days) and understand immediattely develloper's request, questions, instructions.
-Sense of friendly communication and psychology (develloper is on heavy stress & work load when it's beta testing time)

Very good testers are an immense help and they are rare. 4 of the old team have already a place if they want. I'll never salute them
enough for their help on FsP 2004 ! And given how helpfull a good tester is I would feel ashamed to ask any fee for their work.

When time will come I'll contact some well know users of the forum and I'll also make a public call for testers. Until this time no need to
ask

Dan

I think it's obvious that only FsP 2004 customers should be able to beta test, and they shouldn't have to pay to test, but will pay for the released version. And if people seep disappointing as testers, then they get kicked out. But give everyone a chance?

Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - DanSteph - 22-01-2008

Update ? well.... FsPX work almost 90%, I'm re-working yet all the failures wich is a difficult and tricky part as FsX SDK doesn't allow much
so I have to find some workaround.

Last night I had an idea also: I plan to give more crewpack with FsPX ideally I would want to bundle it with almost 10 crew pack.
So I'll have to find peoples that can record voice (I may pay some fee for this work) The idea is to make a standalone program that will
allow anyone to make crew pack very easily. For each "slot" of crew sound just press "record" and speak, the program will filter the wav so
it sound like "radio" and save it with the correct name.

It would work about the same than the actuall "SoundText.exe" (see sound/crewpack) but with record/save/filter abilites.

Previously one add to know a bit wav utilities and be carrefull with filename, with this standalone utilty it would be very simple to make a
new crewpack.

This utility would be bundled with FsPX.

Thats not possible, I tried one time a "public" beta it was the worse experience I had... Everyone was posting without any care or
consideration, peoples where reporting bug in "doesn't work" style and never come back to give more info or answer my questions.

So a fixed beta team only.

Dan

Hi Dan,

good to hear about the progress. I hope you can use the SDK for most parts. Not that this starts again when FS11 is on the horizont...

Will all screens be kept in-process as in FSP2004? Some functionality like the company manager, log & maps might be external. I
wonder if this would make you more independent from FSX internas.

Regards,
Heiko

90%!!! omg Dan thats great news ( am i late??)

But anw, you mean that you could include Faroese voices (would happily make that for free!)
and Danish and etc. ?

Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - runibl - 22-01-2008

Glad to see you doing progress. Almost 90%, i'm beginning to see a release out there in the future Smile

I might volunteer to try this out. For free that is, always glad to help in any way.

That might have been with DGIV right? I think i remember that, It was pretty chaotic.
The choice for a fixed team, would be best. I wouldn't want to see that chaos again.

Otherwise keep up the good work.

Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - DanSteph - 23-01-2008

Update: working on the "create voicepack utility" for now it record ok (but of course the GUI is not done)

I plan to allow automatic use of low pass/hi pass filter (so it sound like radio) also automatic include of attendant bell and background
noise. (optionnal of course)

In brief you check "use bell", "use filter", use "backround noise" click record, speak, stop and you have your attendant sound ready to use.
This will shorten the dev of voicpack as the only work is to speak in the mic instead of editing sound & adding, bell, noise & applying
various filters.

I'd like to help with beta... also, if anyone needs, I'm a bit of a sound engineer, and could easily help make the voice packs. Anyone want to send me
samples, I'll edit them to make them sound good and radio-like, with good spacing so you don't get the whole automated voice system sound going.
Contact me if you'd like me to edit your samples.

Great to hear Dan! Keep up the great work Applause

Guess I can chip in some money for beer party when its all done Beer We are going to have a party right Smile?

P.S: To all the people wanting to be beta testers, I think he has people already.
If he was to pick everyone, how is he to make any money giving 2000 beta copies away to all the people to want to test. Big Grin

Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - P-touch - 23-01-2008

Hi Dan,

as I can see from your previous posts, FS Passengers is getting in a final stage. Congratulations with that, I've played it on FS9 and it
realy gave a new dimension to FS. Since I became a reviewer for http://www.flightsimx.be , I need to check software real deep. In this
experience, it might be a good idea to try and get a "job" as beta-tester... So I'm kind of applying Cool. I hope this is the right way to do so,
otherwise you can contact me via e-mail, it's in my profile Wink

Anyway, if I'm not selected for betatesting, I hope to be able to make a review of this great software!

Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - JudgeDredd - 23-01-2008

Congrats on nearly completing FSP for FSX.

Can I ask something...I am looking for something to transform this dead sim (Flight Simulator) into a proper game and I see FSP for FS9 is still out
there. I own both FS9 and FSX, but tbh, I really want to move forward with FSX, so my question is...will there be a discount for current owners of FSP
for FS9 when FSP for FSX becomes available?

If so, then I may well pick up FSP for FS9 just now and buy FSP for FSX when it appears...otherwise I may well just wait until FSX comes out.

Thx for taking the time to answer.

There is an age old IT saying though:

First 99% is a breeze but the last 1% is armageddon .. seeing that Dan is at 90%... well ya catch my drift Smile
