MySQL/PHP databases

Two questions....

1) Can I assume that this program will also allow the pilot to report directly to a VA website for PIREP reporting (like FS Keeper)?

2) If so, wil support be provided for MySQL/PHP databases? I know that FSKeeper and FS Flight Tracker are all written for ASP pages.

Now it's all about time because I have still dozen idea but I cannot release
FsP in september... 2008... FsP contain already a lot of features.

So FsP will be released ASAP with a basic "export" to html of statistics.

As said in previous post howewer I'll not stop develloping FsP once it will be
out, all is already planned for easy upgrade without messing the database
and with easy install of upgrade...

As I know also very well MySQL/php I can write easily an exporter for pilots data
perhaps if a webmaster of such VA that use those system can contact
me so we can discuss the format of data and what is needed ?
I don't want to reinvent the weel on the website side...

If this isn't ready for the final release I think to do it at least later.

At least you are open to the idea and that is what matters. I am fairly experienced with MySQL/PHP and would be happy to assist in any

Hello Maceo,

I just had a really quick look at FS Flight Tracker, it seem to me it doesn't export
directly to the SQL base does it ?

Anyway while I'm really experienced to SQL/php I can write whatewer exporter
that will write directly in the SQL base...

My idea:

The webmaster should have a FSP PHP module easy to install that will set the SQL base
and that he can configure with site's parameter and table design.

The webmaster when he register a new members get a "signature" file that it should send
to the new members by mail or whatewer, this one place the file in the FsP directory
in the "config" folder for example.

This file will contain the URL of the site the username and a MD5 key...

If FsP detect such a signature file a new entry come in the menu "Export pilot to VA"
(with the name of Va perhaps so he can be involved in multiple VA)

So the members now just need to click on "export my flight to Va" and all his flight log
will be registered automaticall in the SQL base by POST request, there will be of course a control
to register only new flight etc etc...

After that given the data in the base the webmaster may perhaps be allowed to configure
the php module to be allowed to display various data with various options....

In fact as you see the biget job is to create the famous PHP module.. it should be
easy to use, webmaster friendly and highly configurable in mean of data display...

I find this idea very intteresting and I would love to do at least the client side (in FsP)
but I wonder if many VA would use it ? I mean... this would render the VA "payware"
as everyone would have to buy FsP...

Perhaps we might wait the release , if FsP become popular or not...
As said I can upgrade FsP without problems...

The answer to your last question, Dan, is "Yes!!" Other VA's would use it. In fact, it has even further application if it can be incorporated into a
full flight sim service sight, such as one that I'm most familiar (WestCoastATC.com) and an admin with. We would hope that you'd allow us to work with
you and other VAs on how this might work within the structure we've already set up with Pilot Pay and logging of online and session flight time.

Payware? You bet, particularly if it can be modularized and customized with business rules that pertain to each given VA or group of VAs.

I'm ready to hear any request or particular wish as usual, what I would need now is someone
for discussing the technical inside, in brief: what data, wich format etc etc...

I love php/mysql almost as much as C++ so there would be no problem on my side.
Such a PHP/SQL module (that would be free of course) should be standard
and easy to understand/install by any admin that have a minimum of skill...

Anyway I cannot on my life let drop FsP yet to start to work on such module...
So I'll add that on my "todo" list if there is a minimum of request for this feature
(I cannot spent also dozen hours of work for a feature that is rarely asked)
So I await VA webmaster feedback about this... (I had already a discussion
with a president of a VA but he wasn't intterested by such things)

Roger that. It's premature to work on these things now. Interest needs to be expanded in the base product. Then when the non-beta testers get a chance
to put it through it's paces, we'll be in a better position to share data common to both dbs and code. Most of our stufff is done in Perl, but I'm set
up on my own domains for PHP/MySql and we can certainly accommodate the same on the West Coast ATC servers as well. Then it's a matter of setting up
the coding and queries to display what's need for a server-side multi-VA module.

Lots to think about, but I'm still anxious to work with your first release...as is everyone else, too!!
