Contour flying in war zones

Hi Dan,

Would it be possible to implement something where flying low would improve your chances of escaping ground fire in war zones? Maybe
the risk could start diminishing at say 100ft AGL and get less and less as you get lower and lower. At the moment I'm having major
problems trying to climb out of Baghdad without losing something, usually including an engine, which makes helicopter ops impossible
as FS only models one engine.

What you might try to do is edit the warzone file and set Baghdad lower than 99% risk.

I would think that a more realistic level might be 10% warzone risk, though personally flying bigger multiprop Hercules out of there from
time to time I like the 99% lol

the more your climb rate is the less you are likely to be shot down...
climb like a rocket and dive like a stone and you will be safer....

About flying low, this work perhaps for fighter as they fly really fast and are small but
I don't think that such big and "slow" things as an airliner can be anything safe close
to the ground. In reallity they don't do that appart perhaps in area with a lot
of mountain. (and they know the ennemy is in the OTHER valley

Having done some military time myself I know I would have love to see an
ennemy heli or an airliner close to ground, I would even be able to hit it with my
military machine gun. (of course not a war heli but you are not supposed to
make war operations) (of course I would not love to shoot on anyone in reallity
but its a supposition here)

This FSP feature was included remembering some video of humanitary flight
over bosnia, they fly high and dive or climb like mad to stay the less time
possible near ground.

It worked well in Northern Ireland for a long time. 'Hedge Hopping' we used to call it, although 'Hedge Trimming' would be just as
appropriate, as it wasn't uncommon to see bits of foliage caught up in the undercart. A lot depends on whether you're facing organised
air defences or an insurgent/terrorist enemy just 'taking a pop' at targets of opportunity. You're not skylining for very long at low level, by the
time they know you're there you've been and gone. Not much fun for us sitting in the back though.

At the end of the day I'm using the program for something it wasn't really intended for anyway, it's just one of the extra 'goodies' you've
included, and I also overlooked the obvious (lower the threat level). Thanks for your replies both of you.

Maybe it could be fun if the threat level as lowered in the first 50 feet AGL... Could be really accrobatic and simulate a plane going below
the radar level...

The problem with low level flying is ingestion, our Tornado's found in the first Gulf War they would suck sand at 20feet AGL which is what
they started flying at. Once they raised up to 60 feet AGL they lost less aircraft.

As Dan says come in high (around 8000 feet should do it) and drop like a brick. For take-offs then circa 2500 fpm climb should do the
trick, best plane for this is CaptainSim's new C130, she does the job admirably. I should know I've been into and out of a number of
warzones in her w/out a scratch.

Okay my record got blemished last night, not he Herc's fault though, mine as I got it all wrong. After that all heck broke loose and I lost 1
engine, fuel tanks X2, electrical systems and Vacuum. Still got down safely and overall did me a favour as now C2.
