Hey Matt,
This error is due to memory access violation within the Programs (x86) directory. Having FSX installed in this directory can cause unwanted issues due to the protections within the directory. Some people don't have any issues in using this directory but many do. I've always suggested that people install FSX outside of this directory like C:\FSX. If you had a separate HD this would be ideal to operate FSX.
