Paul: I don't know which planes you're flying exactly, but judging from the PA32-300 I flew in the past days I'd say FL060 to 080 are altitudes for
maybe a "medium lean" mixture. I start leaning at about the same altitude (maybe even at FL020) but climb up to FL120 or even higher (Cherokee Six
goes up to near FL145 if need be, I think) - up there the mixture setting is "close to cut-off".
