Interesting aiports and approaches
Author: Ceemosp      1117 Posts  Status: Living Legend    Date    04-19-10 12:56

Maybe we can share our "knowledge" about interesting airports or challenging approaches here for FSX.
It could give others an idea of where to fly to when getting bored.

The format should be (my suggestion) Country, City, Airport Name, ICAO Code, Airport/Rwy Information, Scenery (default/add-on/freeware
etc) and a short description of the place. Maybe a screenshot if one has them.

Let me start then:

Country: Italy
City: Florence (Firenze)
Airport Name: Peretola Airport (Aeroporto di Firenze or Amerigo Vespucci Airport)
ICAO: LIRQ
Elevation: 144ft (AMSL)
Rwy: 05/23 5,633ft / 1,716m Type: Asphalt
Scenery: Default FSX or Aerosoft Florence (I used the default)

Description:

The airport is located in a valley with some nice mountains around which make some pretty interesting approaches. Try a visual for Rwy
23 if you feel like being challenged. You will fly over the mountains and make a mini - "Kai Tak" approach. It is advisable to leave your
heavies at home for this one.

I have found the approach into KSFO hair raising before, especially at night when ATC decide to take me round the east of the mountains on the Oakland
side of the bay to get onto the 28s.

I have nothing to do with this site, but it is a good place for ideas on where to go.

How about landing a heavy aircraft on 1L/1R at KSFO? In bad weather, at night?

Mountain side, at night, total electrical failure, low fuel light on, with your right arm in a sling. Oh and with a migrain headache. I don't
want to brag but....................."There I was, upside down with my air medals dangling in my face, the cat walking around on the inside of my
canopy........well, need I say more?:)

If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.

Lukla was named the most extreme airport on The History Channel last night.

If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.

its not a hard approch, just short runway, and over a beach

How have you missed this one ;)

Country: Hong Kong
Airport Name: Kai Tak Airport (Hong Kong International Airport) Untill the closure on July 6, 1998 at 01:28
ICAO: HKG
Elevation: 28 ft (AMSL)
Rwy: 13/31 11,122ft / Type: Asphalt
Scenery: http://freewarescenery.com/

Description:

Kai Tak was located on the north side of Kowloon Bay in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The vicinity is surrounded by rugged mountains. Less than 10 km to the north and
northeast is a range of hills reaching an altitude of 2,000 ft (610 m). To the east of the runway, the hills are less than 5 km away. Immediately to the south of the
airport is Victoria Harbour, and further south is Hong Kong Island with hills up to 2,100 ft (640 m).

At the northern end of the runway, buildings rose up to six stories just across the road. The other three sides of the runway were surrounded by Victoria Harbour.
The low altitude maneuver required to line up with the runway was so spectacular that some passengers claimed to have glimpsed the flickering of televisions
through apartment windows along the final approach.

All the information was of Wiki

Try this with winds up to 30knots, with storm clouds, at night time, and maybe for a laugh set your traffic on full. Without a doubt you will probably get a few go-
arounds. 8o (Which will be annoying) ;)

Hope you like my idea :)
