Backup server was hacked too which took them by surprise, only Ext-HDD's could've prevented it.

Well, I don't know. I thought the backups are being recorded onto tapes or external disk arrays, both taken/sitting off-site... 
Anyway, it's a shame this happened

hope avsim get up and running again. They didn't deserve this.
thx for putting this up, i now know what the promblem was.
If God had really intended men to fly, he'd make it easier to get to the airport.

Nope, they never established that form of backup, only onto a separate server.
