FAA Approves Eclipse Jets To Return to 41,000 Feet
The FAA has cleared all Eclipse 500 very light jets to return to a maximum certified service ceiling of 41,000 feet, contingent upon the installation
of recently recertified combustion liners. Eclipse Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney Canada worked together to resolve carbon buildup on the static vanes
of a limited number of P&WC PW610F engines. “If the customer has a Gold Eagle Service Plan the fix is included and there is no charge; if the operator
does not have the plan the cost is $14,950 per engine, which also includes enrollment in the ESP program,” Ken Ross, president of Eclipse Aerospace
service division, told AIN. Ross estimates about 80 percent of the owners are covered by the P&WC gold ESP. According to Ross the work must be done at
either an Eclipse- or P&WC-certified facility. It requires about two-and-a-half days to complete the procedure on-wing. Eclipse is basing work
scheduling on the aircraft’s serial number and original ownership date. “By completing the combustion liner replacement project, we are officially
announcing that the commitments to our existing customers have all been successfully met,” said Mason Holland, chairman and CEO.
