Windows 7 and FSP?
Author: AAirliner      3 Posts  Status: Young recruit Date    09-25-09 23:49

I am running Windows 7 (Dont worry im a TechNet user) and its the RTM version that will ship in october. Im wondering if there will be any
conflicts between windows 7 and FSP i found that i always crash near the end of the flight and the announcements dont work. I will
reinstall and get back with results soon. Has anyone else exprerienced these problems in Win7? :bug:

There's a known bug, using FSX menus in Windows7. If you're getting CTDs on the ground, mid flight or towards the end of the flight, it's
most likely caused by this bug. To test this, go to any airport and keep moving your mouse over the FSX menus for a little over a minute, if
you'lll get CTD, you know you have a problem.

To fix this, you'll need a file from Vista (depending on your version of W7 32 or 64) called UIAutomationCore.DLL and place it in your FSX
directory. Then run command prompt and register the file by typing regsvr32 UIAutomationCore.dll

It worked for me and many other people.

I haven't done anything, just registered the file with Windows 7 via command prompt. I didn't hear of anyone having any issues with sound
after this.

Hi All,
I own FSP for FS9 but upgraded to an i5 windows 7 64bit (Radeon 5770)machine recently and now run FSX.
I have very little on my machine apart from some scenery; FSAirlines client, FSEconomy Client, payware aircraft etc.. and have no issues.
On installing FSPax I have had "less than desirable" results you could say. I have gone through the forums and tried even the fixes that
would not apply with no result.
Right after installing FSPAX I either get
1) FSX startup logo - Nothing happens.
2) FSX Startup logo with FSPAX startup sounds(Announcements, baby crying etc.. - Nothing further happens.
Now, I have noticed that after I remove FSPAX it complains about FSUIP being corrupt but will run anyway, I close reopen and no furhter
issues.
So in summary, The minute I remove FSP everything works brilliantly.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I am not blaming just FSP as I realise some people are running it on Windows 7 64bit but we all
run different configurations obviously, which is causing the issue and I would merely like to identify the differences in order to resolve the
issue. For instance, I have had to change my FSX.cfg to accomodate failings with the ATI chipset, I run the aero theme(Could be an issue)
etc.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled FSP and FSX as well.
I am not in favour of reloading my machine as I do not feel this is a solution as it could pop up anytime, I would much rather identify the
problem(I have been able to run FSP twice only but now it's pooched).

So, I guess what I'm asking for is a Windows 7 thread with known fixes and hopefully we can find a fix for this as I do not beleive I have
come across one yet.

Thanks
Kevin

Well, I've still had no luck after uninstalling everything and reinstalling FSX and all components step by step(FSX; restart; run - SP1;
Restart; run - SP2; Restart; run - FSUIP; restart; run - FSPax; restart; NO - RUN....
Remove FSPax - FSX = 100%.

Any ideas would be appreciated (Other than the few "workarounds" {which don't work for me} in the forums)

In short - Yes. As you can see from my previous post, I was very meticulous about how I re-installed all products. I will dig some more but
I'm getting to the end of what I can do as far as troubleshooting goes. Thanks.

Problem Solved - Maybe......
I installed .NET Framework 3.5 and all of a sudden FSPax works like a dream - I have been testing it for the last 3 nights without any
issues or crashes and it launches first time everytime.
Now I have since removed the .NET Framework to confirm that it was that but FSpax continues to work even after I uninstalled .NET
Framework. That's not to say it was'nt that though as uninstalling apps does'nt remove all files/reg entries etc.. which could explain it.

The next step for me will be to reinstall my entire O/S replicate the fault - install .NET Framework 3.5SP1 and confirm it was that.

In the mean time, It would be usefull if one of the guys "on the inside" could get Dan to confirm whether what I did could have resolved the
error or whether it was just a fluke(which I doubt).

Cheers

If you can replicate the issue as a .NET one, I don't think any of the "insiders" would be much help ;) Let us know what you find out through
your troubleshooting. If you are definitely certain that it's a FsPX problem and not some other program or software issue, I'll forward this to
Dan.

OK - Last night I reloaded my entire O/S from scratch(Formated my drive as well).
Installed all the latest Windows Updates
Installed my AV software(Viper)
Nothing else.
Installed FSX as per normal(FSX;run;reboot - FSXSP1;run;reboot - FSXSP2;run;reboot - RUN FSX - no problem)
Installed FSPax - start FSX - NOGO - All I see is the FSX Splash screen - Reboot;same thing.
Reinstall FSPax - same thing - only splash screen - no sound, nothing further - remove FSPax = FSX starts 100%.

Install .NET Framework 3.5(From control Panel / Program & Features / Turn Win Features on/off) - launch FSX 100%.
Now I would hardly say two tests like this is conclusive but I am confident enough that this will work everytime for me that I am going to
buy FSPax as I doubt I'll have any further issues.

I'm no programmer but I guess this is a .Net application, so maybe Dan can shed some light on the matter, I don't see this as a work
around as many apps require .Net Framework. This could also explain why it works for some and not others as it does not install by
default.

Also, as I said before, I can now remove the .Net Framework and it will continue to work without any issue.

So just to recap - this fixed my issue where:After installing FSPax all you see is the splash screen and don't hear any sounds.
