Going to try Win 7
Author: gbapache      1554 Posts  Status: Living Legend    Date    08-29-11 17:05

My son is staying with me after getting out of The Army and has an unused PC with Win 7-64 bit on it (he's a laptop kind of guy). NO, I'm
not abandoning my old faithful XP. My intention is to try to replicate some of the Win 7 problems that we keep reading about with FSP. I'll
be doing the installs of FS9, FSX, and FSP for both as if I was a newbie and didn't already know some of the tricks. Everything will be
default, we'll try addons later. May the force be with me.:)

Good luck there, Com padre. I've had Win 7 a short time already and have not had any issues with FsPX at all but it doesn't mean that I couldn't have
issues with it later on. Some experience issues with it right away and others seem to have problems with it after some months or longer. The only
program I have had issues with installing was the Flight1 ATR. I finally got it to install after entering Win7 in the safe mode. Strange, huh? But,
that's the only way it would install on my system.

Yeah, good luck! :top:

Looks like I'm set to just keep chugging with XP for some time still. My machine dates from '05.

Okey Doecky then. With XP everything is black or white, yes or no. With 7 it feals like Spoks mother asking him what he feels like. It's all
mushy. Today I'm done with all Windows updates.

This is stupid. I have a naked Win 7-64 computer with ALL microsoft updates, only FS9 and FSP demo are on it and yet it always goes to
a black screen when I try to put in the code. It's no wonder people are pissed off. Hell, I have everything on my computer and this
little experiment has put my diapers in a bunch. More later after three shots of Jack, I'm just pissed off now.:worry:

Did ya try the ol windowed mode instead? ALT plus ENTER? Maybe that will get you to a clear screen, soldier.

Okay, that worked. I'll just have to get used to this new screen thingy. All these years I have flown with a clean screen, now this. Oh, the
shame!

You may not have to do the windowed mode all of the time. I'm wondering what type of video card you have and if drivers are up to date.

Unlike Spock, I assume you don't "feel fine."

Thanks for all the reporting, and best of success with overcoming all the problems

Got a good deal on a GTS 450 today. Install manyana followed by test flight. Still getting used to the quirks of 7.

I don't know anything about the GTS 450 but there are no guarantees when it comes to FSX ;) Just last night I was doing a flight from MDST to KMSY and
would lose 6-12 FPS consistently over water. It wasn't until I got near Florida that the frames came back up to 30 and stayed there. Very strange
indeed. After landing in KMSY and setting the parking brake, FSX shut down....d3d9.dll crash. That's the first crash I have experienced so far. I am
going to try the flight again tonight without ENB series activated. I may uninstall it anyway. I really don't like the way it interacts with FSX.

Help! Last night I put in the new card and ran the included disk, everything was fine. This mourning I ran microsoft udates for the
freshest drivers and now I'm stuck in a vicious cycle of uncommanded reboots. I can never get to a screen to do a system restore. My
first thought is to take out the new card and use the old slot for video to go back in time. I'm only a simple helicoptor pilot, I have every faith
in the world that given half a chance I can break this box and have a very expensive paperweight

new info.Moved the boxes back where they started and found out that everything works great on my sons crappy screen (blue plug) but it doesn't work on my super dupper screen (white plug)

Hey old bud :)

I have been using Win7 64 ever since it came out......
Using the GTX860 I still have to find problems where the old probs I ran up against still seem to be gone.

Try resetting your Win7 back to the last backup through the configuration screen. Then leave the last win7 update out of the question of installing ;) It
causes havoc within any system ;)

And yes, after getting close to losing my job with the deep reorganization I still have it and doing fine :) Will say more later on that as it's f ar O/T ;)

So return to basically a clean Win7, without the last update, and with the latest videocard drivers and you should be fine ;)

Regards,

Me :drink:
