New user : Q on payload model for small GA planes - pbn - 28-10-2005

Hi, I'm pretty new to FSP. I'm working my way up the career mode, so I need quite some time in a single prop. I'm quite fond of Eric
Dantes freeware Robin DR400/180. I couldn't find a payload model so I decided to give it a try making one from scratch. I have been
reading and searching alot in the forum. I have come up with a payload model which seems ok to me, but there is a few things I'm
unsure of:

1 Do I have to make changes to the aircraft.cfg's weight and balance section, if I use other values for the loading positions or is it enough
to change the values in the load editor program? (It ssems to me, FSP will use the values from the editor and ignore all values from the
cfg file)
2 Is the "Z" value in the editor the value for how long fore/aft the loading point is, and Y the sideways value ?
3 Am I doing something wrong since I can never use the first loading station, unless I have a full load for the plane, it will always start
from the highest number ?

With regards to the threads about flight crew, I have used a little alternative pacement of the loading stations for a better flexibility. It
seems to work ok, but I would be very happy, if one with more experience with the program would take a look at it, to see if I'm on the right
track.
I have added a screen shot of my progress..

1) No, you don't need to make any changes to the weight/balance. FSP replaces the weight at the cargo stations with weight at the stations specified
in the payload model.

2) I don't exaclty remember the z vs. y layout, but I'm pretty sure the FIRST number for each station is the length (fore/aft) setting, and the SECOND
is the lateral (right/left) setting.

3) I assume this means you're wondering why the 1st station never gets a passenger (this is presumably the right-hand seat beside the pilot). I don't
really know why this is either. You'll never get your plane 100% loaded, and so on small GA planes this means there will always be a least 1 empty
seat. For some reason FSP tends to load stations with multiple seats first, and so since the right-hand seat is a single station (that's how I have
it in my payload models anyway), it probably will never be used, given that there will always be at least 1 empty seat.

Best of luck.

As I have seen in my trials, I would say:
1) You are right, FsP works with the editor, do not change aircraft.cfg
2) I think that Z value is the position (fore/aft) setting, and Y value is the height.
3) What I have done in order to be able to load the pilot, is to put it in the last position, station_load 4, and then always I have the pilot as
passenger to load. I think you are right "it will always start from the highest number".

All the best,

Thanks alot,
I think I'll be able to get this working more and less correct. there is no need to separate the rear seats then. That will simplify it some, but
it's a shame uneven load can be used.
I think it would be great if some one would write a FAQ on how the weight and balance part works, just an idea.

HI Peter. Dan posted a response to this question and there is a lengthy example and analysis here:

Tthanks alot,
I'm trying to "digest" it at the moment. There is some testflying ahead as I see it..
