To Dan: Crew Sounds some 8bit some 16bit? - silo - 01-09-2005

Hi Dan,

I was wondering why the default crew pack (Flight Attendant voices) some wav are 22050hz 16bits and others are 8000Hz 8bits?
Why it was done like this?
Would it be bad to make them all 22050Hz 16bits?

Thanx

The answer is: best ratio quality/size

for most sound wich have a "radio effect" you don't need more than 8khz 8 bits
because it would not make any difference, those that are 16 bits if you notice
are those where there is no "radio effect".

I think anyway that 11025 16 bits is good enough (I saw that some are 22050)

hope it answer?

Dan

uhmm...kind of...
I thought that all the flight attendant voices had a "radio effect" (all the wavs preceded by a ding dong sound). You are talking about
speaker effect, right? When the FA comes to the cockpit to ask if you want coffee for example, those wav have not been processed with
the speaker effect.
Ok so if this is the case it's only a matter of how big the final download will be.

That's it... usually you can get a good voicepack for less or about 4mo..
