Solution for Crash of FSX - DanSteph - 11-01-2016

FsX crash to desktop

If FsX crash with 0xc00000005 error ("third party software error" etc.) , it's a problem of windows wrongly setting a "compatibility" setting
in the registry. It does not only appear with FsPassengers but also for other addons (see link below)

Solution

New solution:

The new FsPassengersX version dated from at least 23 january include and automatic detection & deletion
of the registry flag that cause problem. Download and run this installer.

Old manual solution & explaination of the problem:

--------------------------------------------
1) Open regedit
2) Goto the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
3) Delete the key "<PathToYourFsX>\\fsx.exe"="$~ RUNASADMIN IgnoreFreeLibrary<FsPassengers.dll>"

In the "layers" part, DELETE ALL the keys that start with your fsx.exe's path and a name of module.

Sorry but I can not find the file AppCompatFlags

Do you have a more permanent fix in the works? After 1 or 2 flights the registry key reappears and needs to be deleted again. It's a bit annoying.

Dan is currently working on an update. It may be a few days yet.

I have the incoming installer that can fix the registry key and I have an idea about clearing this window's behaviour about compatibility flag.
Stay tuned, I would say 4-10 days for next version.

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Jcally - 12-02-2016

I've downloaded the new Jan. 23 file and it still continues to crash. Windows won't even allow me to reload FSX with FSPassengers after the crash. Forgive my lack of
experience with PC and there might be an obvious fix. I use Mac 90% of the time. I only use PC for a few budget items and FSX.

Which service pack(s) do you have for FSX? You may want to go here to ensure your FSX is patched correctly:

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Jcally - 12-02-2016

Hmmm. I had just downloaded the program from Steam - but I'll try and use the service update - I was under the impression that Steam keeps everything up to date
automatically. I'll give it a shot and thanks!

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Joeflyer - 12-02-2016

You didn't initially mention anything about having the -SE version. You may want to hold off on adding any separate service packs. I think -SE has
already incorporated those. Also, you didn't mention anything about operating system you use and where your FSX is installed....on the same drive as
OS or a separate drive? At any rate, do make sure -SE is up to date.

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Jcally - 12-02-2016

I believe I was correct - That update was for the non-steam version as it would not update.

I am able to get one flight logged and then on the second flight it crashes - I go to regedit - delete as I was suggested to do in the forum and it works again for one more
flight. I thought the Jan. 23 download was supposed to fix this. So I reinstalled the newer version. I guess my question is do I need to delete FSX completely and start
over from scratch to stop this crashing issue?

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Joeflyer - 12-02-2016

Ok, so you've gone from regular FSX to -SE now. Yes, the latest FsP is suppose to correct the registry issue but let's not assume that's the real
culprit.. It could be that you have a anti virus program running in the background and blocks the installation. If this is incorrect, please let me
know. Also, you should post the log.txt and install log so that we can take a look at what may be going on there. You will find them in your main FsP
folder, which resides in your main Documents folder. Just copy and paste the contents of each log in your next post.
That way we can try to troubleshoot a bit more before you go through the hassle of re-installing -SE and FsP again.
Once again, what is your operating system?

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Joeflyer - 14-02-2016

Ahh, the X86 installation may be what's causing the problem due to protections. Can you install in C:Program Files instead of the X86 one? Of course
uninstall -SE properly before doing so.

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Jcally - 19-02-2016

Wow - I'd love to, but I have no idea what in the world you are talking about. What I am getting from you here is to uninstall Steam FSX and reinstall it in a different way.
But, I have no idea what X86 means. If there is a forum with instructions on this I would be happy to check that out as well.

Re: Solution for Crash of FSX - Jcally - 19-02-2016

Ok - so I have done some searching and see that you are speaking about the specific program files folder...again I'm a mac user and this stuff is new to me. So if I
understand you correctly you are suggesting that I install FSX in the regular program files. I've never been given the option when downloading.
