alitimeter penalty a little bit broken - Tomb - 03-09-2005

such as you land at an airport with no ATIS,

instant Minus 300 points even though i set the tower setting in the abscense of an ATIS

any hope of making this penalty apply only if thier is an ATIS at an airfield to tune ?

in this case i landed at GCLP...no ATIS as i discovered..but a nice fat penalty

Press the B key. That will auto-set your altimeter to wherever you're at.

Re: alitimeter penalty a little bit broken - Tomb - 04-09-2005

thanks i'll try that, see if i get a penalty

The "B" key works wonders! It's usually quite difficult to accurately set your altimeter in FS9... I simply press "B", and I'm in good shape!

Re: alitimeter penalty a little bit broken - Tomb - 05-09-2005

damm still got the penalty, one more try then its gettinig disabled, would be nice if the transition and atis alt penalitys got seperated could
turn one off

unless i am pressing the B key in the wrong stage of flight

i have been tuning and setting the atis setting once i have been given the runway i am to be landing at.

is thier a minimum/max alt you are supposed to make this setting ?. have to say i have had no trouble with journeys that have an ATIS at
each end but if one airfield does not have an ATIS i am getting penaltys no matter what i do so far

You need to set the QNH on the altimeters once you pass thru transition altitude... thats usually below 18,000 feet when decending.

That is one penalty I did disable, I had experience of that problem with flightkeeper. Getting hit penalties when nobody told you what the
setting is. To avoid that you would sometimes have to sit there with your finger on the 'b' key.

Re: alitimeter penalty a little bit broken - SWAFO - 05-09-2005

If you're flying with real world weather, and a constantly changing altimeter, then you'd have to press B quite frequently below FL180. If
you're flying with static, never-changing weather, then simply one press upon descending through FL180 will be sufficient.

Re: alitimeter penalty a little bit broken - Tomb - 06-09-2005

ahhh real world weather i am flying with, that would possible explain why its working one day and not the next.

i am going to disable it i think since the penalty is way too severe and i would rather have real weather, i think this should be a bonus for
doing right, not a severe bonus for not being detected that you are using the baro settings since it is effectivly ruining ones virtual pilots
career

I have never had this problem before, just hit the B key about every 15 mins and when you are about 30 nm out
