[Solved]Problem installing fspassengers - fs_junkie - 23-03-2015

When I try to install fspassengers on a new computer I get the message

'Your version of FsX is outdated (RTM), you must have at least SP1 or SP2 installed - aborting FsPassenger'

I have fsx acceleration installed which according to microsoft doesnt need SP1 or SP2 see '
http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/SP2-EN-ReadMe.aspx
Is there a solution to this issue? Help appreciated,
many thanks

Re: Problem installing fspassengers - darrinward777 - 23-03-2015

Hello again, Could you verify . Is this version of FSX the Deluxe with Acceleration or Gold Edition which comes with acceleration or the Steam Edition? Did you purchase
the Acceleration disc separately?

Re: Problem installing fspassengers - fs_junkie - 24-03-2015

Hi

fsx deluxe edition
fsx.exe/Properties/Details file version 10.0.60905.0
this is lower than 61637.0
Maybe I don't have acceleration after all.
Does this mean a reinstall of fsx + SP1 + SP2 after 6 months reinstalling all my addons??
I also have fsx Gold edition which includes Acceleration expansion pack, but installed it on my laptop, which has much a lower spec than my flight sim PC.
i am getting a bad feeling about this...

Ian,

Did you see Dan's latest post in the FSX forum? Maybe this will help you, but I know it applies to the patch he is working on for FsP:

Re: Problem installing fspassengers - darrinward777 - 24-03-2015

Hello Ian,
I would recommend using the acceleration disc from your gold edition and installing it with the other deluxe version you are running on your home PC. If it is a good
copy then you should have a product key therefore it should allow the install. The Gold edition is basically the deluxe version combined with acceleration. That is why
you have three disc's with it. As far as all the add- on's assuming scenery, aircraft , and clouds, acceleration will improve the way they function, but you are right that
you should first have installed as follows:

First disc 1 and 2 then acceleration. Before putting add- on's in you should then tweak and run the program and by this I mean :
1) After installing Disc 1 and 2 : Run FSX for a few seconds in free flight mode
2) Install acceleration and again run a few seconds in free flight mode
3) Set your graphics in settings for the best performance, fps and graphics then leave the settings alone.( Make any future changes with the fsx.cfg folder)
4) put in the known tweaks that help FSX run on your system ( See my thread in FSX General FSX Fixes & Tips in cfg )
5) Start installing add-on's one at a time and run FSX after each add-on is installed.

I hope you can install acceleration without having to start over but on the other hand setting up FSX the correct way will have advantages in the way it operates and the
fun you can get out of it. Before attempting the acceleration install, back up all you can in separate folders on your 2 TB hard drive ( very smart to have ) Don't feel like
you are alone Ian, I can't tell you how many times I have had to re-install FSX and it is both a learning and frustrating experience.

Let us know how the acceleration install went
Darrin

Re: Problem installing fspassengers - fs_junkie - 25-03-2015

Thanks Darrin and Joe,

This is very helpful
I will try the acceleration reinstall -yes I do have keys for both fsx gold and deluxe.. I will let you know how I get on

One other question before I start. I read that it was good to have the OS on one SSD and fsx on a separate SSD so that is how I set it up. I still get
'your computer has run out of available memory' with high scenery settings, AI traffic at 50% and in heavy weather. Frustrating after a long haul
arriving at EGGL where the megascenery causes fsx to crash. I can pause and reset the settings to prevent it but that takes some of the realism out of
flying. My computer guy thinks the issue is caused by having the OS and fsx on separate drives, but I'm not convinced; he's good on computers but not on fs.
Any ideas?

thanks
Ian

Re: Problem installing fspassengers - darrinward777 - 25-03-2015

Hello Ian,
If you are getting OOM Out of memory errors in FSX, this has to do with VAS Virtual Address Space which is separate from RAM. FSX is a 32 bit program but if you have a
64 bit version of windows (7) you should apply the HIGHMEMFIX=1 into your fsx.cfg folder. This will increase your VAS to a total of 4 gig. If you need more info , post back
and I will give you a step by step.
I also just created a new thread entitled" FSX for people who have to start over" I created it with you in mind in case you should have to start from scratch. I
am retired due to heath reasons so time I do have. I would be happy to help if you need further info.

Hi Ian, You will need to place the HIGHMEMFIX=1 at the bottom of the [GRAPHICS] section in your cfg.

Re: Problem installing fspassengers - fs_junkie - 24-04-2015

Hi Darrin,
In the end I didnt need to fully reinstall fsx, I had trouble uninstalling the original fsx but the disk reinstalled it with acceleration and I didnt
lose all my add-ons,. though i had to reconfigure quite a few of them (eg. EditVoicepack, fsinn and some of the scenery files) . Fsx Acceleration is
now working well, with fspassengers.
thanks for help,
cheers
