STEAM FSX Not WOrking with FSPassengers - jburneau - 01-01-2015
So I'm not sure how to delete these, so my other onw is just blank, sorry.
I got FSX Passengers installed, and when I open it, it says it can't recognize the version of FSX! I have a legit copy, I bought the updated one from
Steam. Any ideas? If we can fix this??

FSP was never intended for steam.

I did see a big splash advert from STEAM about adding FSX to their product line and wondered if all the add on would work with this without a flaw.
It seems we may be finding out the answer.

Thinking about this and reading more about the Steam edition, and trying it out, I have a feeling that not only are we going to be adding yet
another "separate" FSX Version but another FS altogether.
If you read the Steam site and the ever increasing incredibly biased reviews up there, all is well and that people should find
that pretty much all addons will work out of the box with FSX Steam.
Well, already this is clearly not true, as having tried myself over the weekend, FS Passengers doesn't work on top of FSX Steam.
REX does?!
Don't expect to be leaving DX9 anytime soon either, because if you want to use DX10 you still have to do exactly the same as in MS FSX
It is not until you read ALL the reviews that you realise some of these "Fantastic Game" Wonderful Experience" reviews are in my personal
opinion from people who have never touched the game before and quote:
"Flew a plane from Ottawa to Montreal. Then tried to go from Montreal to Calgary. Only then did I realize... WHERE THE ♥♥♥♥ AM I.
This game is huge, and don't be surprized if you get lost while playing."
They themselves admit in one of their write ups that they have "worked hard" with the main third party developers to ensure their addons work.
I wonder why not FSP? I would consider it like many on here as an ESSENTIAL addon myself.
But there are even people saying that when FSX stopped being produced they went to this or that simulator instead,
but they think FSX Steam is so good they are coming back and think it is the bees knees, despite Steams own admission
that actually very little has been changed within the gameplay itself!!!!! So why?
Because it is $45 in the states and £19.99 in the UK?
Oh, and they are using the MS Advert that was only shown in the UK a couple of times a long time ago on
their front page to advertise it !!!
I see in my crystal balls a bit of a mess coming up until things are sorted out.
I would be very interested to hear other peoples problems, as I said, there are some out there saying pretty much EVERYTHING works fine
on FSX Steam?!?!

Anyone know how to contact the author of FSPassengers? I unfortunately purchased this thinking it would work with the Steam version. It doesn't, so I need a refund. I
sent a message through the contact link at the bottom of the site probably a week ago and nobody replied to it. If there's no other way, I'll have to try to get my bank to do
a charge back.
I had FSPassengers for FS9 years ago. It's a great product and I enjoyed it a lot, but if this guy can't even respond to a financial inquiry, well... I think I'll be staying away
from Mr. Polli if I don't hear from him very soon.

That'd be a shame if he didn't respond. I'm a programmer and have been selling my software online since early 2000. I can't imagine ignoring a customer like this,
especially when they've purchased something that doesn't work for them for whatever reason. The one time I really messed something up, I personally called the
customer and offered to send his money back as well as email him a copy of the software for free. He was so taken aback he told me to keep the money anyway. This
was about the same price as FSPassengers too.
If Dan would have just replied that he's working on a fix that'll come out in a month or so, I'd probably just say "ok, keep the money, I'll wait for it."
Oh well, I guess I'll have to see if the bank can do something about it. Hopefully they will, $45 isn't cheap. I'm a little tempted to write a program like FSPassengers myself
just out of spite.

It may be that you have hit two problems here with your refund.
Firstly and most importantly in my opinion, there is a Demo version which you are encouraged to use first, before you buy, for you to download
which is identical to the full version, the only difference is that you may only use it at certain airports. Perfectly sufficient to see if it will
work with your system and your version of FSX.
In the write up for FSP, no where does it mention that it is compatible with FSX-Steam. Therefore the absence of that sentence alone would have
me download the Demo first just to check first.

None of that changes the fact that I have software that does not work.
I was a user of FSPassengers for FS9 years ago and loved it. I had no reason to think the FSX version wouldn't work with FSX just because it's a Steam edition. I've been
a game developer for 14 years with one of my titles going on Steam soon. Normally you'd just add some Steam API stuff to the previous version, nothing that breaks
compatibility. Steam is then just an online store like any other. It's going to literally be the same software we sold before, so the fact that this FSX is a Steam edition of
some quite old software didn't give me any indication there would be a compatibility problem.
In the future I'll be more careful, but regardless, simply refusing to respond to issues or a refund request (even if it's to deny or question it) is nothing short of criminal. This
man appears to have no business ethics and will receive no business from me in the future. What right does he have to take my $45 for software that does not work and
then not even respond to an inquiry on that? It's unconscionable.

Contacted my bank tonight. They're on it. Hopefully a charge back will go through and he won't get to keep the money.
What Dan really ought to do is update the web site with a warning about the Steam Edition not working. As a developer myself, I understand this kind of unexpected
thing. If he'd have just responded with "sorry, this Steam thing was unexpected and it broke the software. I'll refund your money or you can wait a few weeks while I sort
out an update" I'd have been fine with it and just waited for an update. No big deal.
My issue isn't so much that it doesn't work with the Steam Edition, but the lack of response since my December 23rd inquiry. Two weeks ought to be enough time, I'd think.
It's the principle of the matter that annoys me. From other comments in the forums it would appear he's been unresponsive or missing from this for a very long time, so I
don't expect to hear from him.
Hopefully he's alive and well at least. If he is, wow, this is not a good way to handle one's business affairs at all.

Quick update: The bank has provided a provisional credit until the investigation is complete. Looks like I'll probably get the money back. I recommend anyone else that
made the same mistake I did contact their bank to deal with the problem.

Sorry you have gone through so much to get your money back. At one point you indicated that you got Dan's phone number. Apparently he didn't answer
the phone,eh? Dan has always stated that he is not good with customer service, which is quite sad actually. Hope you get your money back....

Nah, I didn't call him. I wrote the bank an email and they replied almost right away saying they'd look into it, so I didn't bother calling him.

That's a disingenuous comparison. The software DOES work as intended. As apache has pointed out, it was NEVER intended to be compatible with a product
that would come out several years later. Or a different operating system. Or whatever.
Dan did provide support, did beta test the software, and did provide excellent documentation. He was also flexible with the price for users with
limited income. He does not owe anyone anything more. To portray him as someone who would just grab your money and run is dishonest, to say the least.
As it has also been pointed out, the demo is fully functional, and that's more than enough to test its compatibility with anything.
The only disclaimer I would like to see is one saying this software is no longer developed and does not come with customer support at this point.
Aside from that, it still works perfectly as intended, and will continue to work perfectly as intended.
