fs pax constantly freezing windows xp 32 - flightsimman - 02-05-2012
Morning simmers,
As the title suggests i am constantly getting "m$ has encountered a problem and needs to close" after it has froze on me.
This only appears to happen when i use a drop down from fs menu or using right click (to change view etc)
This is getting very frustrating as i am only able to register 1 flight in (approx) 8.
I have contacted dan twice so far to no avail, and i also contacted fs store several times also, who have eventually replied to me saying
something about a dll file.
I have read the forums and dont see qute the same problem i am having, also i have seen that other users issues are vista/7 connected
and nothing to do with xp.
I am only running fs/ultimate terrain/fs pax - i do use pmdg also but is currently not installed.
I really need a fix for this asap as i have not much hair left to pull out!

It does not seem to be due to FSPX.
WinXp is a real real old OS... but give a try to this fix for Win Vista/7

Because your problem seem to be the exact problem on those two OS... Don't know if someone made a fix for WINXP.

Hi mmm, ive tried the dll fix but that seemed to make it worse, by giving me pure black screens(dual monitors) fs store have advised me
to remove the dll file from the fix and rerun it, but im back to my old iossues.

I don't really what it is happening but maybe it is time to change for something else maybe a 64 bits OS ... could be nice for your sim

hi, i aint going to the hassle of buying and installing a new o/s and all other installs just for a £32 program, that shouldnt be this

To add, - these issues are still very consistent, i cant even complete a whole flight!!
Fss tod me they woud refund me, then 2 weeks ater they said to see dan about the refund, then when i eventualy got dan by email after 3

Now fs it still not working, -
Now ive tried everything put forward to me, and after approx 10 reinstalls of fsx with/without addons, i think ive done enough to try get this
working,
Now is the time i should be getting my money back!

First of all welcome to the forums.
I can understand your frustration.
We will help you of course the best way we can.
It has to work on XP because it worked also on all my "old" computers with XP.
Just to start....

Hirecon, many thanks, windows xp, intel 6850 oc - 3.6g p5n 32e sli mobo, nvidia 8600gts, 4g xms2 6400c5 ram,
Ive tried so many things its u8nreal, now dan has asked me to try the fsx registry utility, there are no instructions with it, so im not sure if
im doing it right, at he very start i managed to do several flights using it, but now its getting to be the case of every flight i do, it crashes,
the sound still comes through but fsx freezes till a microsoft encountered a problem causes it to restart, i have tried so many different
variations of install orders, ie utx, pmdg md11, ive also tried it with fsx alone, - ive uninstalled many many times, including deleteing
registry keys after uninstalling all to no avail
My system is very stable, and temps dont go above 60c so i know its not heating issues, memtest etc all run fine so its not my ram, no
other programs fail, so im assuming its not my hard drive, yet when fsx is running with no add-ons it does not crash.
I have even tried the dll file tip for vista, again to no avail.

My first desktop pc was almost exactly the same specs....E6750 and ram are the only differences. XP 32 ran FsP without any issue, but the only time I
experienced issues was running SLI with FS9 way back then. I never tried FSX with that system. I figured it wouldn't run FSX well at all with only 2G
of ram. Are you actually running SLI or just one 8600 card? I see that you have a SLI mobo but can't see a mention that you actually have 2 of those
cards running dual monitors. Possibly this could be the issue?

Hi, i have just one 8600gts, and it i am running dual monitors(nvidia dualview) even when running just one(single mode) it crashes also.

Did you tried to download FsP again and then do a fresh install?

Yes i have re downloaded it 3 times (4 in total) yet still having these issues.
I really dont know what else to do,
would it be possibe for you to talk me through this fsx registry utility that dan has linked me?
After all this time, and many many emails, he has just come forward with this : and is also saying this is the fix for it, - surely if this was the
fix for it, i would have recieved this help well before now?
Strangely i dont have a problem with unlocking it which dan is suggesting.

Well it is not that difficult.
Just download the zip file to any location on your pc.
Unpack it and double click on the .exe
It should run by it self.
In the zip is also a help guide included.

Hi recon, thanks, i knew how to run the .exe, just when i go to the toolbox for help, i get "navigation to the webpage was cancelled" and i
cant go any further.
I have already deleted the registry keys(if thats all that this registry editor does, ive deleted in both local machine, and current user, - i
always delete registries when uninstalling stuff. i just didnt understand how the repair part was going to work.

Mmm,...very strange.
I can download it via the link and just let it run.
I just tested it on my old pc with XP.
So just to make it clear.
The reg.tool isn't the solution or does it just don't run ?

Hi again recon, - i dont have a problem running the exe, when its run, what do i do after? if its only for getting the registry paths and
deleting registry keys when fsx is uninstalled ive done that already, i was assuming it was a repair tool, that let you reroute certain folders,
as some had maybe been misplaced when installing (fspx for example).
