this may sound like a newbie question but what is the difference between the default 747 and a PDMG 747?

The PMDG requires ADVACED knowlage... in other words, you are gona need 500+ hours to fly it. Its VERY complex

Well there is a huge difference between those two.
First of all is the pdmg more realistic then the default in every way.
Of course the pdmg has much more working knobs and the working FMC.
It does however take some time to get familiar with all those new features.

Hello mr.pilot,
I own the 747-400X version from PMDG and find it sooo much better than the default fsx 747. There is no comparison that the PMDG wins
by far. However it does require a good deal of knowledge to get the FMC going. There is no GPS system that you get with the default
planes therefore the only real way of knowing where your going is to be able to correctly input data into the fmc.
I started off not having a clue how to use the FMC however it didnt take me 500 flying hours to work it out. Yes it was tricky but i gradually
learned and now i hate flying any other way. I would seriously recommend learning the FMC as it adds great experience to your flying.
It might be an idea to purchase another cheaper product that requires FMC to fly before the PMDG. This way you have not spent all that
money for nothing. Something like the PIC 737 or Captain Sim 757/767. I learnt with the PIC 737. Every planes FMC does differ slightly but
not majorly.
The other benefits of the PMDG 747 is the detail both on the exterior and interior model. Graphics are incredibly. The downside being that
it hits your fps hard! If you have a good computer then it doesnt matter.
Also the engine startup sequence is more complex than the default planes making it more relaistic. The default plane start up is not how
it would be done in real life whereas the PMDG is.
Its definately a product to consider but just bare in mind it cannot really be flown from A to B without knowledge of the FMC

For a freebe that is nearly as good try the iFly 747 available on many of the popular webzines for FS2004 and FSX. It will give you a taste of an
"advanced" FS aircraft before you drop money on something that you may or may not be looking for.
