What's your silliest blunder while using FsP? - Boston234 - 19-08-2005

Hello,

Just wanted to see what kind of silly blunders people may have made :-) This is my most recent.

I am on C2 and I am trying to get the last two hours to get to C3. After, what I thought would be a very good 48 minute flight, I looked at my
end of flight report , and I am shocked and confused by this:

Overall Flight Result: Bad

Pilot Bonus points: 50 points
You made a very smooth landing. (+50)
ยท
Pilot's Penalty points: -350 points
You didn't land at the scheduled airport MACK and you didn't declare an emergency. (-350)

After a bit of head-scratching, I finally realized my stupid mistake! I entered "MACK" instead of "KACK" as my arrival destination!

I will be more careful next time.

I did it also : KFOC instead of KSFO....
But the silliest blunder is the Classical " You did not close the door".
Just think to all the jokes of the other pilots when you are back to the Airport bar......

running into a building with a piper

Me too, me too
I forgot one wing in the Airport bar..I'm stupid

MIstakes of mine that I would say were most silly: meticulous fuel calculations that went wrong because of some wrong unit conversion or simply
because I'm sometimes to stupid to do the most simple math (like multiplying) in my head but still try to. In the worst case so far this lead to a
completely unnecessary engines out landing attempt (which failed - rest in pieces).

One of my "favorites" was when I shut off a second engine after a first one failed. (thanks God, the VC10 has 4 engines)

Hmmm.

Hey, let's start the movie: CTR+SHT+M... Dooh!

Darn, my engine just failed, let's restart it: SHT+E... Dooh!

I've made far too many mistakes to recall any single event! lol.

Starting the movie by accident while on short-final

Shutting donw number two engine when number one had flamed out

Fogetting to shut the door

Forgetting to turn lights on

Smacking into a hill near Vegas tonight, thankfully my pilot only got injured but didn't do her career any darn good.

Usind Flight deck companion which controls the flaps and gear on approach, descending to Manchester from La Palma at fl230 I had
forgot to set the pivot heat, I have icing in clouds set in FUIPC, went through some clouds and my instruments went dead saying speed
zero. FDC immeadtley began to deploy flaps and gear which for a few seconds I tried to overide it when there was a terrific bang, nearly
made me jump out of my chair with a message "flaps damaged". Crashed in the end, won't forget to check pivot heat again.

Smacking into a hill near Vegas? Any chance it was a big hill called Mount Charleston? lol

Last night I had just reached my cruise level on a flight from KSEA to KLAX with the leveld 767 (bumpy climb). So it was time to turn off the
seatbelt sign and I go ahead and hit ctrl-shift.....N! I see my finger lifting off the wrong key thinking "what the heck have I done now?" I
knew something had happened because I was now hearing a different noise from the usual but I couldn't figure out what! So I'm
checking the overhead, the rest of the panels looking for some switch in the wrong position or some annunciator lights. Finally just at the
last second I realized that the wrong key command had switched the A/T from SPEED to N1 and the a/c was just about to cross the Mach
limit. Disconnected A/T right away, closed the throttle and put the spoilers out (little bit). Pheeeww!
I'm telling you, if I wasn't running FsP I wouldn't even care...that's one of the reasons why I love it!

1 - Forgot the door open on take off once. My hair never recovered from the wind blast. Smile

2 - Was on LFPG approach with 747-400 and was a little high when intercepting ILS. I reduced power, let out spoilers and increased rate
of decent. but forgot to add proper flaps as the plane slowed and a sudden wind gust from behind nerfed the lift and put the 747 in a
deep stall at 2,800 feet.

The co-pilot turned white ( STALL STALL.. You Better Do Something )
The passengers soiled themselves ( AAAAAAGHHHH..... EEEEEK....)

And my jaw dropped. wow

I tried to recover but there was not enough sky between the plane and the ground, and we schmutz into the ground hard like.

All died.. Hunappy

Kinda nasty since it was a 7 hour real time flight with no time accel.

Lesson learned and did the flight successfully the next day.

FsP sure brought that moment to life though. One I wont soon forget.
